Ally Rhodes is a singer-songwriter from Omaha, Nebraska known for her melodious guitar playing and smoothly delicate singing voice.
Ally chatted with us about her start in singing and about the people that inspire her to pursue her passion for music!
Ally Rhodes admitted that she doesn’t know where her musical ability came from.
“My family was not musical at all,” Ally said. “I was also really shy so singing was something I would only do in the privacy of my own room.”
Despite Ally’s shyness, she stuck with singing.
“I think I just liked how it felt,” she said. “I’ve loved it for as long as I can remember.”
Ally is also a songwriter who has been playing guitar for about 7 years.
“Normally I just sit down with an idea or a line I really like and everything sort of just happens,” Ally explained. “Most often I’ll come up with a chord progression first, and then lyrics and melody come at the same time.”
Ally has many musical inspirations, but she said Tori Kelly and Ed Sheeran have been two of her favorites in the last couple of years. She’s also a huge fan of Lorde and Lana Del Rey.
“My music is sort of headed in the direction of a blend of all four of them,” she said.
Ally said she covers both popular songs and songs she loves and would like to draw more attention toward.
“In all cases, though, I choose them because they’re fun to play,” she said. “There isn’t really a lot of conscious thought that goes into putting my own spin on things; it sort of just happens!”
Recently, Ally had a lot of fun covering “Royals” by Lorde with her friend Josh.
“We’re both kind of obsessed with Lorde at the moment and I also really love Josh’s voice, so it was super fun to do that song with him,” she said. “I was dancing around while I was recording my part.”
Ally has gotten far by working hard and singing her heart out. She believes that other aspiring singers can also make it if they’ve got what it takes.
“Do it for the love of it. Never do it just because you’re good at it or just because you make a lot of money doing it,” she advised. “If you can’t sing it like your life depends on it, you probably shouldn’t be singing it.”
Currently, Ally is gearing up to release her next single.
“I don’t want to say too much too soon, so we’ll leave it at I AM SO EXCITED!!” she said.
