In Hollywood, it’s not that unusual for costars to begin dating after getting to know one another on set. In fact, some of the entertainment industries most beloved romances (we’re looking at you, Rachel McAdams and Ryan Gosling) began when on-screen flings spilled over into real life.

This duo met while playing love interests in the 2006 film, Step Up, and tied the knot in July 2009. Their daughter, Everly, was born in May 2013, but the actors ultimately called it quits after nearly nine years of marriage. They announced their divorce in an April 2018 Instagram post and told People at the time: “We have lovingly chosen to separate as a couple. We fell deeply in love so many years ago and have had a magical journey together. Absolutely nothing has changed about how much we love one another, but love is a beautiful adventure that is taking us on different paths for now.”

The Vampire Diaries fans know these two better as Damon and Elena. They began dating around 2011 after meeting on the set of The CW drama, and worked together for quite some time before officially breaking up in May 2013. Somerhalder is now married to Nikki Reed, and Dobrev is friends with the couple. When a fan asked Dobrev if the friendship was “weird” during her Jan. 2019 appearance on Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen, she replied: “I don’t think that’s weird at all. I think that’s great. Why can’t everyone be friends?”

The Mamma Mia! costars (and on-screen love interests) dated for three years after they finished filming the first movie musical, but ultimately broke up in 2011. However, they reunited as love interests for the flick’s 2018 sequel, Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, about a year after Seyfried married actor Thomas Sadoski. When Cher, who costarred in Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again, caught wind of Cooper and Seyfried’s romance, she told her on-screen granddaughter that she “dodged a bullet.”

4. Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth

It’s no secret that these two met in 2009 on the set of The Last Song. They played teenage couple Ronnie and Will in the flick, and their romance flourished off-screen. Despite some ups and downs, the couple tied the knot in a surprise ceremony at their Tennessee home in Dec. 2018, but broke up just a few months later, in August 2019. “Ever-evolving, changing as partners and individuals, they have decided this is what’s best while they both focus on themselves and careers,” a rep for the pair told People at the time. “They still remain dedicated parents to all of their animals they share while lovingly taking this time apart.”

5. Courteney Cox and David Arquette

Cox and Arquette met on the set of the 1996 thriller Scream and tied the knot in San Francisco in June 1999. Their characters in the highly successful horror movie franchise were also married, but the actors’ real-life relationship didn’t last. They separated in 2010 after 11 years of marriage, but amicably co-parent their daughter, Coco, who was born in June 2004.

The Taylors dated after meeting on the set of 2010’s Valentine’s Day, in which they played a totally in love teen couple. However, their real-life relationship only lasted for about three months, and Swift reportedly penned “Back to December” about their ill-fated romance.

Gossip Girl fans are well aware that this small screen couple began dating shortly after they met on the set of the beloved CW show in 2007. Though the relationship lasted an impressive three years, the twosome still had to work on Gossip Girl together following their 2010 split. While Lively is now married to Ryan Reynolds, Badgley wed singer Domino Kirke in 2017.

8. Andrew Garfield and Emma Stone

Garfield and Stone played love interests Peter Parker and Gwen Stacy in The Amazing Spider-Man 2, which was filmed in 2010 and released four years later. They pair started dating in 2011 after ending things with their respective significant others, but broke up in 2015. Despite the split, there doesn’t seem to be any animosity between the two. “I’m her biggest fan as an artist,” Garfield told Vanity Fair of his ex in Jan. 2017.

Once one of Hollywood’s most beloved couples, these two met on the set of the 2003 film Daredevil and began dating shortly thereafter, eventually marrying in 2005. They have three children together—Violet, Seraphina and Samuel—but divorced in 2015 after a decade of marriage.

Ironically enough, this twosome began dating in the summer of 2005 while working on their movie, The Break-Up, in which they played a duo going through a nasty split. Like their characters, Aniston and Vaughn eventually went their separate ways around December 2006. At the time, reps for the actors said they “continue to be good friends.”

Shortly after landing the roles of Joey and Pacey on Dawson’s Creek, these two began dating IRL. As Holmes told Rolling Stone in Sept. 1998: “I feel so fortunate because he’s now one of my best friends. It’s weird, it’s almost like a Dawson-and-Joey type thing now.” While their characters had an on and off relationship on the small screen, the actors were going strong for about a year, before breaking up in 1999.

The two met on the set of Game of Thrones when Leslie played Ygritte, a wildling who falls in love with Harington’s character, Jon Snow. In a 2016 Vogue interview, Harington said the duo fell in love while shooting GOT’s second season in Iceland. “The country is beautiful, because the Northern Lights are magical, and because it was there that I fell in love,” he explained at the time. “If you’re already attracted to someone, and then they play your love interest in the show, it becomes very easy to fall in love.” The twosome got married in Scotland in June 2018.

By the following year, they were officially a couple, and they got married in Sept. 2012. Lively and Reynolds are now the proud parents of three children.

Bell and Shepard starred as boyfriend and girlfriend in the 2012 comedy Hit and Run. They got married the following year and now have two daughters together. “He’s a wonderful father,” Bell said of her husband in a July 2016 interview with CBS’ Sunday Morning. “He knows the value of things.”

They wed in a surprise ceremony in Aug. 2014 at their villa in France, and all six of their children attended the nuptials. Their passionate kiss at the 2005 MTV Movie Awards is a smooch people still talk about. Unfortunately, these lovebirds called it quits in 2007.

Pinto looked back on the relationship in an April 2017 interview, explaining: “You can be with someone and it can be really good for your growth. That’s what Dev was for me. The seven years I was with him were so impactful.” She also noted that the pair were able to end things on good terms and are still friends.

The flick, which was actually shot in 2007, also starred Faris, who played his girlfriend. The couple married in Bali in July 2009 and welcomed their son, Jack, three years later. However, in Aug. 2017 the couple announced their separation with a joint statement on their social media accounts. “We tried hard for a long time, and we’re really disappointed. Our son has two parents who love him very much and for his sake we want to keep this situation as private as possible moving forward. We still have love for each other, will always cherish our time together and continue to have the deepest respect for one another,” the statement read.

Lawrence and Hoult’s romance began in 2011 while they were filming X-Men: First Class together and ended right before The Hunger Games wrapped filming in 2014. However, the pair still had to work together on additional X-Men films following their split. Luckily Hoult, who now has a child with girlfriend Bryana Holly, had a good attitude about the whole thing. “It’s been a good eight, nine years making those movies. In a 2015 interview, Phillippe said age played a role in the split. “When we got together we were so young,” he explained. “I think it can create issues with two people in this industry because there’s so much noise that goes along with it.”

Paltrow and Pitt played husband and wife in the 1995 thriller, Seven. They began dating while filming the movie the previous year, and by 1996, they were engaged to be married. Things took a turn for the worse, however, and the pair split in 1997. Paltrow later revealed that she feels she was the one responsible for derailing the relationship. “My kind of internal stuff really tripped up that whole relationship. And I felt really responsible, and also like I was the architect of my own misery,” she said, according to ABC News. “I just made a big mess out of it … I was very upset for a long, long time.”

The actors met while filming the first Twilight movie, which was released in 2008. They likely started dating around 2009, and confirmed their relationship the following year. However, things began to sour after a few years, as Stewart felt the relationship had become more of a spectacle than anything else. “It wasn’t real life anymore and that was gross to me,” she told The New York Times in Aug. 2016. “It’s not that I want to hide who I am or hide anything I’m doing in my life. It’s that I don’t want to become a part of a story for entertainment value.” The pair parted ways in 2012.
