1 Girl Nation Wants Us To Live While We're Young!
1 Girl Nation is a girl group made up of five girls from all across the country devoted to the same message. The group consists of Lindsey Ciresi, Kayli Robinson, Lauryn Taylor Bach, Carmen Justice and Kelsey Sowards.
"Each of us had been pursuing separate musical careers when we heard about a unique opportunity to audition for a faith based, all-female pop group," the girls said. "We decided to try out and see where the open door would lead."
Each of the girls submitted a video of herself singing. Fifteen girls from across the nation were invited to a week of auditions in Nashville. At the end of the week, five girls were chosen to make up 1 Girl Nation.
"I didn't think I would make the band!" Lindsey admitted. "It was a nerve-racking and humbling experience for me but it was worth it!"
Kelsey admitted that she was so sure she'd be sent home, she didn't even pack enough for the full week!
"Much to my delight I was invited to stay," Kelsey said. "I had to go shopping just to have something to wear!"
Lindsey, Carmen, and Lauryn Taylor are the songwriters of the group. Carmen also choreographs dance moves to all of their songs!
Kelsey is the vocal arranger and keyboard player for 1 Girl Nation, while Lauryn Taylor plays the guitar and raps!
"Vocally I bring the gospel soul flair to the group," Kayli said. "I also like to help keep everyone organized and encouraged."
Their debut album releases on August 20.
"It's full of songs that are fun to dance to that also can be an anthem for your life," they said. "These songs are our stories and we can't wait to share them with the world!"
Their first single, "While We're Young" encourages tweens and teens to think about the choices they make.
"There are a lot of songs on the radio today that say, 'Let's live while we're young, just do whatever you want and take it day by day. You only live once,'" the girls explained. "We wanted to put our own spin on that idea and tell the world that it's cool to make the right choices, to stand up for others, to be a voice, and to be passionate about what you believe in. We don't have to wait until we're old to make a difference. We can start while we're young!"
The new album also features the songs "Live For You," "Invade," "In the Eyes," and "Count Your Rainbows."
Lindsey's favorite song off the upcoming album is "Live For You."
"It shows off our personalities and it's a fun song to jam out to with the windows down," she said. "It also really shares the heart of what we're all about."
"Invade" is an edgier song with a dance break, which Carmen co-wrote with songwriter Jon White.
"In My Eyes" is the favorite song of both Kelsey and Kayli. It's about self-worth and being confident in who you are.
"It's a message that every girl, boy, man, and woman needs to hear," Kayli said. "It's about loving who you are because you were created just as you're meant to be."
"Count Your Rainbows" is a feel good song about being grateful for what you have.
In the fall and spring, the girls will be a part of a tour just for tween girls called the Secret Keeper Girl Tour, which features music, fashion, games, and dancing all in one.

What was your musical background before 1 Girl Nation?
Lindsey: Well I grew up in musical theatre and I did a show called Gospel Dream. I also grew up singing in church and was one of the worship leaders there. I've been coming back and forth to Nashville writing and recording since I was 15.
Carmen: I've been performing my whole life on dance teams, in musicals and in shows in High School. I went to Belmont University to study commercial voice and music business. I also was a worship leader at my church, Long Hollow.
Kelsey: I've grown up singing and dancing on stage. I was in musicals in Jr. High and Jazz choir and show choir in High School. I went to college for music education and have taught voice and piano lessons.
Lauryn Taylor: I was pursuing a solo career in an artist development program. I auditioned for The Voice and made it all the way to blind auditions in LA. I was backstage with hair and makeup done when the team filled up and I never got to sing! I learned that when a good thing falls apart it's only so something better can come together. That led me to audition for this group, which is the perfect thing God had for me all along!
Kayli: I grew up singing in church since age 3. I also traveled all over the world performing in talent shows. I am a classically trained vocalist and studied some music in college.
Who are some of your musical inspirations?
Lindsey: My biggest inspirations are Cher Lloyd and Jump 5.
Carmen: I am inspired by Kelly Clarkson, Haley Williams, and Demi Lovato.
Kelsey: I love Katy Perry, Cody Simpson, and Gavin DeGraw.
Lauryn Taylor: Colbie Caillat, One Republic, and Taylor Swift are my musical inspirations.
