Aaliyah: Princess of R&B To Star Zendaya!

Zendaya has been cast to star in the tentatively titled Aaliyah: Princess of R&B, a Lifetime original movie about music icon Aaliyah!

The film will depict the musical journey of Aaliyah Dana Houghton, better known by just Aaliyah, based on the biography Aaliyah: More Than a Woman by author Christopher John Farley.

Aaliyah lost her life in a plane crash in 2001 when she was just 22. Zendaya announced on Twitter just how excited she is to take on the role.

"She's been an inspiration and influence in my whole career, her talent still shines brighter than ever, all I wanna do is honor her," Zendaya Tweeted on Monday. "Show how much she accomplished in only 22 years….she's beautiful inside and there will never be another Aaliyah, I just hope to share her beautiful story and make her proud up in heaven #babygirl #forever #OneInAMillion"

The 17-year-old actress is best known for her Disney Channel show Shake It Up, and became known to a wide audience after taking second place on Dancing With the Stars.

Zendaya will also record her own versions of four different Aaliyah songs for the movie.

With Zendaya's skills as an actress, dancer and singer, we thing she is absolutely perfect for the part!
