5 Reasons Why We're So Excited About the 2018 American Music Awards
The American Music Awards has always been one of our favorite award shows of the year.
If not simply for the slew of top-tier performers, the timing of the show is icing on the cake. Usually the program falls right before Thanksgiving, but this year, it will be on Oct. 9—still perfect scheduling to curl up with a blanket and hot cup of cocoa, while we watch our idols take center stage.
If you're anticipating the show as much as we are, keep reading for five reasons why we're so excited about the AMAs:
1. Taylor Swift Is Opening the Show
Not since 2014 have we seen our girl Taylor take the AMA stage. This year, the pop star—who is nominated for four awards—will perform her latest single, "I Did Something Bad." Not only are we huge fans of this song, we're also in anticipation over what the singer will wear for the momentous occasion.
2. Laura Marano Is Co-Hosting the Pre-Show
It's an exciting time for Noah Centineo's upcoming costar in The Stand-In! Not only did Laura just release her new single "Me," but she's got an exciting co-hosting gig next week: the AMAs Red Carpet Live, alongside other talent, including Real Housewives of Beverly Hills' Erika Jayne.
3. The Show Will Likely Be an Extra Fashionable Affair
If last year is any indication, you can essentially expect a full fashion show at the awards. Aside from the stylish talent walking the carpet, repeat host Tracee Ellis Ross made 12—yes, you read that correctly—outfit changes last year, and they were all nothing short of jaw-dropping.
4. The List of A-List Performers Is Insane
This year's AMAs boasts a who's who of performers. From the aforementioned Taylor, to Carrie Underwood and Jennifer Lopez, to Mariah Carey, Dua Lipa, Shawn Mendes and more, we know our bathroom breaks are going to be quite limited for this one!
5. Drake and Cardi B Are Going Head-to-Head With Most Nominations
While there's no way to choose between our two fave hip-hop artists of the moment, we do like the excitement of the pair going head-to-head in friendly competition. Drake and Cardi both have eight noms, and we'll be on the edge of our seats to find out who comes out on top.
Catch the show from the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles on at 8 p.m. EST on ABC.
