Ban Bossy With Lean In’s Sheryl Sandberg!
Lean In author and Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg is at the front of a new campaign to ban the use of the word "bossy" to put down girls! Are you ready to "Ban Bossy?"
Lean In is all about empowering girls to be leaders and showing them there's nothing wrong with being a girl in power. The word "bossy" might be hindering girl power progress.
Sandberg explains that, when young boys take the lead, they're called leaders. But when girls do, they're often called bossy, aggressive and too ambitious.
"We know that by middle school, more boys than girls want to lead," Sandberg said in an interview with ABC News, "If you ask girls why they don't want to lead, whether it's the school project all the way on to running for office, they don't want to be called bossy, and they don't want to be disliked."
Being called bossy when they're young can discourage young women from taking on leadership roles even when they become adults.
Beyoncé, Jennifer Garner, Jane Lynch and many more are also getting being the Ban Bossy campaign!
"Leadership is not bullying and leadership is not aggression," Sandberg added. "Leadership is the expectation that you can use your voice for good. That you can make the world a better place."
We can definitely get behind this new campaign! Tell us what you'll do to Ban Bossy in our community at SweetyHigh.com!
