The Romance Trope You Probably Love Best, Based on Your Zodiac Sign

When it comes to stories about love and romance, we've quickly discovered that not all fans are alike. Some may prefer their tales as sweet and conflict-free as possible, while others are delighted by angst, pining and delayed gratification. Lucky for all of us, romance comes in all shapes and sizes, for every reader and viewer to fall in love with.

It's no surprise, then, that certain tropes show up again and again in the romance genre. People tend to know what they like, gravitating towards those tales to get more of what they crave—and we bet we can guess the trope that pulls you in time after time, based on your zodiac sign.

Aries (March 21 – April 19): Fake Dating

Aries is often known for being a fiery and impulsive sign, which is why they might get a kick out of the fake dating trope. These stories often find two characters pretending to be in a romantic relationship, often on a whim, to get themselves out of awkward situations. Maybe they lied about being taken to drive off another suitor or appease someone, or they want to make their crush jealous. Regardless, that forced proximity tends to make real sparks fly—especially if there were some secret feelings bubbling under the surface to begin with.

Taurus (April 20 – May 20): Rags to Riches

The Cinderella story is classic for a reason, and it's bound to appeal to grounded Taurus for a number of reasons. For one, they're hard-working and dedicated, always seeking a better life for themselves, and second, they love all things fine and luxurious. These stories typically see a romance bloom between someone from modest beginnings and someone who's dirty rich or even royalty, and the two fighting for the worthiness of their love, despite harsh prejudices.

Gemini (May 21 – June 20): Friends to Lovers

Gemini is perhaps the most social sign of the zodiac. As the friend to all, they're also drawn to the friends to lovers trope, based on the idea that the most intense and loving relationships will be ones with a basis in friendship. They love the thought of small feelings growing and evolving into something bigger over time, and shared experiences driving the romance. If they've ever suddenly started crushing hard on someone who they only previously saw as a friend, this is even more likely to be the case.

Cancer (June 21 – July 22): Fated Love

Cancer is perhaps the most sensitive and classically romantic of the zodiac signs, so it shouldn't be too surprising that they're into stories of soulmates and fated love. There are few things more appealing to them than the idea that two people are simply meant to be together, and that no matter what obstacles might get in their way or people might try to keep them apart, destiny is going to ensure that their love prevails. Not only are they perfectly matched, but they'll always find each other.

Leo (July 23 – Aug. 22): Forbidden Romance

Leo is bold and fiery sign that tends to be larger than life, and what could speak to that personality more than forbidden love? Whether the characters can't be together because of feuding families or societal expectations, Leo is bound to eat up stories about secret loves and being audacious enough to fight for love, regardless of what anyone else might think.

Virgo (Aug. 23 – Sep. 22): Slow Burn

Virgos are known for their patience, attention to detail and perfectionism, so of course a slow burn romance is right up their alley. These relationships develop slowly over the course of time, with a romance gradually budding between two people who start of as mere acquaintances. They adore watching things unfold slowly but surely, picking out all of the details along the way until they finally make their eagerly anticipated admission of love.

Libra (Sep. 23 – Oct. 22): Love Triangle

As much as Libra likes keeping the peace in real life, they love a bit of drama in their romance stories. They're also notoriously indecisive, which is what makes love triangles so intriguing to them. As the lead is conflicted over their attraction to the two opposing love interests, Libra can pick favorites and follow the triumphs and defeats based on the choices the character makes along the way, all the while celebrating the fact that they don't have to be that situation themself.

Scorpio (Oct. 23 – Nov. 21): Enemies to Lovers

Scorpios have a tendency to be a little mysterious and closed off. They don't trust others easily, and can even be a bit vengeful when they've been crossed, but that's precisely why they love the enemies to lovers trope. While they wouldn't be quick to forgive someone who hurt them in real life, in stories, they can't get enough of the idea of two people who've seen the very worst of each other and can still manage to fall madly in love.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22 – Dec. 21): Late Love Epiphany

Sagittarius is an adventurous sign known for being independent and impulsive, and we think they reason they're big fans of late love epiphanies in stories is because it sounds like something that might happen to them. These stories involve characters who take forever to realize they're in love with someone, figuring out their feelings and realizing just how important they are when it's almost too late. After all, love often finds us when we least expect it.

Capricorn (Dec. 22 – Jan. 19): Sworn Off Relationships

Capricorn isn't known for being a very romantic sign in general. They tend to prioritize things like career or academics, and even if they don't swear off relationships completely, they can probably relate to characters who do. Maybe they've had their heart broken in the past or just need to stay focused on something that they deem more important. Whatever the reason, it's their adamant opposition to love that seems to attract it, making the right person show up right when they don't want them to. Honestly, Capricorn could use some of that levity and openness in their own life.

Aquarius (Jan. 20 – Feb. 18): Grumpy/Sunshine Romance

Aquarians are as independent as they come, making their own rules and doing things their own way, which might be why they appreciate love stories where opposites attract. Grumpy/sunshine romances may be the most common approach to this trope, typically pairing a bubbly extrovert with a cranky, brooding love interest, and finding the oddly perfect balance between them. Aquarius is likely to see parts of themself in both characters, making them doubly thrilled when they inevitably get together.

Pisces (Feb. 19 – March 20): Mutual Pining

Imaginative, romantic and emotional Pisces has a reputation for being the daydreamer of the zodiac. They tend to get lost in their crushes and infatuations, and their favorite love stories are often ones that involve mutual pining. In these stories, two characters have strong feelings for each other, but for one reason or another, they belief that love is unrequited. For Pisces, double the yearning means double the fun—and twice the satisfaction when they finally understand the truth and can be together at last.
