Galapagos Tortoise Meets a Camera- Video Pick Of the Day!

Giant Galapagos tortoise pulls his head into his shell!

This curious giant Galapagos tortoise gets up close and personal with a nature documentarian's camera!

The giant Galapagos tortoise usually lives over 100 years. At more than 5 feet long, they're the world's biggest tortoises, and can weight up to a whopping 550 lbs!

The Galapagos tortoise sleeps for 2/3 of the day and has a super slow metabolism, which allows them to live for up to a year without eating or drinking a thing!

Notice when the Galapagos tortoise pulled his head back into his shell? Tortoise and turtles will do this when threatened. It seems this tortoise was startled by his reflection in the camera!

When tortoises, and some turtles, pull their heads back towards their shells, the skin around their neck bunches up. That's where the name of the popular clothing item "turtleneck"  comes from!
