Junaco Decide to Finally Pursue the Road Not Taken With Breezy New Single, ‘Boston’
Indie rock trio Junaco—composed of Shahana Jaffer, Joey LaRosa and Tejas Leier Heyden—have been making waves with their moody, contemplative and beautifully calming sound, and 2025 is proving to be one of their biggest years yet.
The group recently returned from a summer tour up the North American West Coast with Sam Weber, and their eagerly anticipated sophomore album, In Motion, is slated for a September 2025 release. In the meantime, we just got another gorgeous taste of what's to come with the release of their new single, "Boston."
The track kicks off with swelling, summery strings and a jazzy guitar before the beat of the bass and drums jump in, creating a cozy yet thought-provoking melody. It sets the perfect backdrop for Shanana's vocals as she sings about no longer being willing to wait around, hoping life will happen to her. Finally, she's ready to stop going with the flow, taking the reins and making the decision to take a different path, however scary or uncertain the future might be.
"'Boston,' the third single from the upcoming LP In Motion, reflects on how far the pressures of society can take us," the group shares. "Shahana sings about losing herself, letting the expectations of others dictate her life, finally coming to a fork in the road and seeing that this road would lead to emptiness if she kept going. It's a story of identity and growth, accepting yourself, recognizing that feeling other—whether it's because of your hair, your race, your aspirations—is what makes you you."

The song joins previous releases—January's gentle piano ballad "Serene," the bossa nova-infused May release "Find the Melody" and last month's melodic and cozy "Escape"—in the lead up to the release of In Motion.

We're already in love with what we've heard, and the richly soothing and introspective natures of its tracks seem even more poignant given the way it came together.
All of In Motion was written last winter in Northern California, with the group living together in a yurt. It was an unusual opportunity to reconvene with nature with limited access to technology—including no wifi. They'd light a wood stove in the mornings, spend time in the sauna and then take a dip in the frigid river each evening, disconnecting and distancing themselves from the modern world to focus entirely on making music.

With these songs, Junaco feels more in-tune than ever, both with themselves and each other, and the music is all the better for it. Together, they create a story about about life refuses to stand still, not stopping for a moment, and the importance of seizing it when you have the chance.
