How Minke Tackled Queer Love and Struggling With Identity in New Single, ‘Favorite Part’
English indie-pop singer-songwriter Minke is making 2024 her year, with plans to release a new single every six weeks until the year's end, and we've fallen in love with her latest track, "Favorite Part."
The single dropped at the start of the month, serving as a nostalgic and authentic synth-driven pop track about young queer love. The vulnerable song encompasses everything from coming to terms with your sexuality to finding the courage to pursue love, despite all of the fears holding you back. It's stirring and optimistic as she grasps on to hope and all of the magic that can result from taking a leap of faith. We've been obsessed from the first listen and got the chance to ask Minke all of our most burning questions about "Favorite Part" in the interview below.
The Story Behind 'Favorite Part'
Minke: It's a love song from the perspective of a younger queer person struggling with their sexuality. It's not exactly autobiographical, but it encapsulates a lot of the feelings I had in the early days. The confusion, the excitement, the fear, all the big feelings.

What 'Favorite Part' Means
Minke: I hope it makes people in that situation feel less alone. I think a lot of people can relate to that feeling of liking someone but not knowing if the feelings are reciprocated, or not wanting to ruin a friendship, etc. It's also a summer bop, so hopefully, people have fun listening to it.
Minke's Favorite Lyric
Minke: It's probably "The whole world's screaming at me inside my car not to go too far. Don't forget your favorite part." It's simple but so hard to remember sometimes, especially when we absorb so much information every day we can be so easily distracted and lose track of the important things.
