The red panda is not actually related to the black-and-white giant pandas. Instead, they belong to the raccoon family. We can definitely see the resemblance!

They're called red pandas because, like pandas, their diet consists mainly of bamboo. In addition to bamboo, they also eat eggs, birds, bugs, and small mammals… which don't really seem as appetizing as this sandwich.

It's estimated that are less than 10,000 grown-up red pandas in the wild. Because of their low numbers, they are protected in their native countries of Nepal, India, Bhutan, Myanmar, and China.
