Selfie Is Word of the Year For 2013!

Selfie is word of the year, according to Britain's Oxford University Press! Now that selfie is the word of the year for 2013, we're all a little less self-conscious about the wealth of selfies we take on a daily basis!Selfie is Word of the Year

The publisher of Oxford dictionaries explained that the word "selfie" has been used more and more in everyday speech, no longer being just a word for computer and cellphone self-portraits for Twitter and Instagram. Now everyone and their mom is using the word "selfie," and that's alright by us!

"Selfie" seems to have been used for the first time in 2002. Last year, the word's popularity exploded, and today you would be hard-pressed to find someone who doesn't know what a selfie is.

The online version of the Oxford English Dictionary defines selfie as "a photograph that one has taken of oneself, typically one taken with a smartphone or webcam and uploaded to a social media website."

The word was just added to that dictionary in August, but it's already been getting a lot of use. We know for sure that people are taking tons of selfies, even if they don't know the word!
