6 Summer Hits of the Past We'll Never Get Tired of Hearing
When you're all about the summer vibes, all you want to do is lay out in the sun by the pool with some seriously good tunes.
That's why we threw together a list of our throwback faves that climbed their way up the charts during the sunny season. Try not to dance, we dare you.
1. "Pon de Replay" by Rihanna
It's crazy to think that our one true queen Rihanna made her career debut with "Pon de Replay" more than 10 years ago. This summer jam is one that never gets old with a bounce-style beat and party-centric lyrics. You'll always catch this one on our summer vibes playlist.
2. "Fly" by Sugar Ray
Pop rock band Sugar Ray's "Fly" might have come out in 1997, but its legacy lives on long after that as a summer playlist staple. The tune earns a spot on our list for its reggae fusion and catchy guitar sound perfect for sipping drinks by the pool.
3. "Crazy in Love" by Beyoncé
Honestly, how could we not include Beyoncé's classic hit "Crazy in Love?" Queen Bey has been killing the game since her Destiny's Child days, but this song solidified her presence as a superstar all on her own. Sliding its way onto the charts in the summer of 2003, we couldn't ask for a better jam to listen to on warm night out.
4. "Call Me Maybe" by Carly Rae Jepsen
"Call Me Maybe" is Carly Rae Jepsen's biggest hit for a reason. Although this song was technically released in September of 2011, it will always feel like a summer tune to us. It's impossible not to sing along to this one and the music video is hilarious.
5. "Genie in a Bottle" by Christina Aguilera
In the summer of 1999, we were introduced to yet another truly amazing pop music giant in the making named Christina Aguilera. "Genie in a Bottle" was the lead single off her debut album and immediately became a hit. Even the music video has a summer feel to it, so this one will always remain at the top of our faves from the '90s.
6. "All Star" by Smash Mouth
Another epic pump-up tune, "All Star" was the 1999 youth anthem to which we can almost guarantee you know all the words. We rock this one driving to the beach with the windows down, of course.
We took you on a tour of our fave hits of the past, but THESE present-day unknown artists are worth a peep, too.
