Taylor Swift Writes For The Wall Street Journal!

Earlier this week, Taylor Swift contributed an incredible essay to The Wall Street Journal that discusses the future of the music industry and more!taylor swift wall street journal future of music

In the piece, Taylor predicts where the music industry is headed. She stresses her belief that the music industry isn't declining, as many others believe. Rather, Taylor sees new changes as a rebirth.

Making a career of music can be tough in the digital age, when many people are streaming music or downloading it illegally, she explains.

Different artists have had to adapt accordingly, sometimes giving out their music for free just to get it out in the world. But she hopes that musicians, and on another note females in general, will be able to understand that they have value, and not be afraid to be compensated fairly for the artistic value of what they create.

Many believe that young people aren't buying albums anymore, but Taylor argues that this is not the case.

Instead, they're only purchasing the albums that resonate so deeply with them that they can't resist. As long as people remain passionate about music and artists can continue to surprise and delight their audiences, Taylor doesn't see this ending any time soon.

She also sees that, more and more, artists are record deals because of their doting fans, when in the past, the fans often poured in once the artist had a chance to make a record.

And since genre no longer sets strict guidelines, musicians have more creative opportunities than ever to break through and make something new!

We were also particularly interested in what Taylor had to say about the rise of selfies!

"There are a few things I have witnessed becoming obsolete in the past few years, the first being autographs," she said in the essay. "I haven't been asked for an autograph since the invention of the iPhone with a front-facing camera. The only memento 'kids these days' want is a selfie."
