The 5 Best Cooking Shows Every Foodie Should Enjoy

As people who don't have the time to cook often, we have a special appreciation for anyone who can spend their life honing their culinary craft. Plus, it is surprisingly challenging to excel in both presentation and taste.

So, instead of taking the time to learn, we passively watch others fight to be crowned the greatest chef in the room. It still feels like we get to eat the food by hearing the hosts describe the flavors and textures. And hey, if we're really paying attention, we might learn a few new tips and tricks along the way. Ahead, find our top five favorite cooking shows for entertainment, education or both.

The Great British Bake Off

Something about The Great British Bake Off feels more lax than any American show. Rather than banding together a group of award chefs, this series finds its cast in baking lovers. They might work at a bakery or run an Instagram account, but usually, it's all in good fun. You can see how the cast begins to bond over the season—and it becomes disappointing when anyone exits. Besides, who doesn't want to listen to British accents for an hour?

Guy's Grocery Games

It's hard not to love the King of Flavortown, Guy Fieri. He has immense charisma, wit and chemistry with everyone in Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives. It was only right he'd receive his only competition series, Guy's Grocery Games. In this show, you'll watch teams sprint through the faux grocery store to find the best ingredients. It's fascinating to watch how resourceful the participants are.

Hell's Kitchen

Of course, we had to include the classic Hell's Kitchen. Who doesn't want to watch Gordon Ramsay scream at people for being incompetent? Jokes aside, Hell's Kitchen features some of the most talented chefs in the country. After all, you probably have to be extremely skilled to work with someone like Gordon.

Is It Cake?

Is It Cake? exemplifies that food is more than survival. It's an art, too. You'll watch superstar bakers make desserts that resemble everyday items, from chess tables to handbags and more. At the end of the challenge, viewers and judges must vote between three identical items to select which one is cake. It's harder than you think!

Nailed It!

Now, this is a show we could go on. Netflix's Nailed It! highlights the people who aren't good bakers. You know, anyone who can't do anything more than a break-and-bake cookie. And if you do attempt anything else, it will probably look somewhat deformed. See how good they can get once they are put to the test—and maybe look into auditioning because you can receive $10,000 if you win.
