There are so many wonderful things about having modern technology, but by far, one of our favorite parts is that you don't have to take a class or purchase a book to learn a language. With the download of one app, you can have an intensive program to bring you close to fluency.

Below, we gathered a list of our favorite language-learning apps to show you how simple it truly is to begin your bilingual or continue your polyglot journey.
Busuu
If you want an all-around strong learning experience, Busuu is a fantastic app to start, especially as a beginner. It has everything, including in-depth grammar explanations and a wide range of vocabulary. They also offer an arguably more useful understanding by teaching casual slang, which many apps don't.
Clozemaster
If you already have a good grasp of a language, we'd recommend using Clozemaster to polish your skills further. It's more vocabulary-heavy than other apps, which is why it's one of the best to expand your already rich knowledge of what you're currently studying. Arguably, it's the second-best thing to reading a book in the language!

Duolingo
Duolingo is undoubtedly the most popular app on this list. It's practical—allowing you to learn a language easily on the go with quick lessons—and motivating (thanks to the infamous owl—if you know, you know). On top of everything else, it also has the most unique languages, including fictional dialects like Game of Thrones' High Valyrian.
LingoDeer
We decided to try LingoDeer before a trip to South Korea because it is one of the best for East Asian languages, and it was by far the most effective for teaching Korean (compared to other apps). It's challenging to grasp the different syntax of other regions, but LingoDeer clearly and concisely explains how to use them while using useful repetition techniques to help you nail it down.
Memrise
Many apps provide a clear benefit to subscribing to their premium versions, but Memrise has everything you need for free. Rather than relying on robotic voices and professional lessons, Memrise provides a lax experience by letting you hear from native speakers and community-led lesson plans.
