The Biggest, Boldest and Most Bizarre Beauty Trends of 2017

It's almost time to say sayonara to 2017!

Trust us, we couldn't be more excited to bid adieu to this seemingly questionable year—but not without reviewing the best and brightest beauty trends, of course.

Some of the craziest beauty looks we've ever seen went viral this year. Will 2018 be able to top it? Or do you think beauty will take a drastic turn next year? We're sitting at the edge of our seats waiting to usher in a slew of new trends. For now, here are the beauty trends that we couldn't get enough of in 2017. The big question—how many did you try?

Face Dunking aka Jamsu-ing

While the Korean beauty craze was nothing new, the concept of dunking your face into freezing cold water to set your makeup definitely was. We tried out the ridiculous jamsu trend. Even though it sounds totally out there, we kind of thought it worked. Now don't get us wrong, we're definitely not dunking our faces in freezing cold water every morning, but we're not totally mad at the idea either.

Wacky Eyeliner Trends

It's safe to say that 2017 was the year of eyeliner. No eyeliner trend was too intricate or wild for us to explore—be it flames, candy canes or mermaid scales. It felt as if every major viral trend happened to involve painting our lash line with some crazy new design.

Super Long Cher Hair

Long hair, definitely don't care was the mantra this year. Everyone from Kim Kardashian to Shay Mitchell to Kylie Jenner showed off super long hair. Sure, these ladies relied on extensions and wigs to get their dramatically long manes, but we're still all about the long hair look. We're taking our hair vitamins and hoping for a miracle.

Buzz It Baby

On the contrary, the people who didn't go long went mad short. And by short we're not talking about a lob, we're talking about a full on buzzcut. Kate Hudson, Halsey, Katy Perry and Cara Delevingne are just a few of the major names who cut it all off. We don't plan on getting a buzzcut anytime soon, but we're excited to see how their manes look when they become cute pixies and bobs.

Natural Makeup and Skincare

Natural, nontoxic and oh, so clean. Natural beauty reigned supreme, with more and more brands focusing on safe, natural ingredients. Hey, if it betters our skin and the world, we're totally on board.

Sparkly Lips

No lip was complete without some sort of shine. Glitter was popular choice, but people got really creative with their lips this year. We've seen metallic, python, designs—but our fave is definitely the glitter lips, which we fully plan on wearing to a holiday party this month.

If you told us last year that we'd even consider tattooing our eyebrows, we would think you were totally insane. Flash forward to the start of 2017 where microblading literally blew up. Still think of trying out this awesome trend yourself? See our editor's experience here.

Face Masks

We've always been fans of face masks, but it seemed like this year they got more love than ever before. Between #MaskMonday to watching our favorite bloggers mask away in their Instagram stories, it felt like everybody was at home masking, Netflix and chilling.

Bleach Babe

We were all still crazy for platinum this year. Major switch up from Ariana Grande, Selena Gomez and Kim Kardashian kept us on the tips of our toes. Thinking about trying out the look? Just make sure you know exactly what you're getting into first, because going platinum ain't no joke.

Fenty Beauty Everything

There hasn't been a launch as big or successful in recent years as that of Fenty Beauty by Rihanna. She launched with 40 shades of foundation, concealers, and cult-worthy highlighters that flew off the shelves. We're crazy for this line, too.
