Valentine's Day Hair Tips According to a Mane Addicts Celeb Stylist, Brittany Sullivan

We couldn't be more excited for Valentine's Day.

And while we plan on keeping it low-key this year, that doesn't mean we have to show up to the dinner table with our S.O. or gal pals with a messy bun and sweats (more power to you if that's your vibe). If you want an excuse to get all dolled up, look no further. We spoke with celebrity hair stylist from Mane Addicts, Brittany Sullivan, and she spilled all the tea on achieving salon-worthy hair.

Keep reading for our full interview with Brittany Sullivan to find out what hair tips she has to give out this Valentine's Day!

Sweety High: Should we wash our hair on Valentine's Day, or the night before?

Brittany Sullivan: Wash on V-Day to make it part of a whole self-care routine so you're feeling extra fresh while relaxing, eating chocolate and face-masking, with a rom-com on—or am I the only one planning on that?

SH: What should our washing routine entail?

BS: I've personally been really spacing out my wash days to give my hair a break during quarantine, but when it's time for a complete refresh and reset, I love Not Your Mother's Activated Bamboo Charcoal & Purple Moonstone Restore & Reclaim Scalp Scrub ($8.99), plus shampoo and conditioner specifically to maximize your hair type's needs. I also love the Ouai Treatment Masque ($38), which comes in a fine to medium hair formula and a thick hair formula.

SH: How do we give ourselves a salon-worthy blowout?

BS: Get cozy with a round brush and do use your hair dryer's concentrator nozzle attachment (it's probably in the box). The narrow nozzles keep the airflow specifically directed and help with a smooth and controlled effect. Don't forget to prep with a heat protectant like Not Your Mother's All Eyes On Me 10-in-1 Hair Perfector ($7.49) before you start!

You can achieve a similar effect using a tool like the Dyson Airwrap or even a large barreled curling iron depending on your hair length!

SH: What is the best way to achieve a sleek look?

BS: Sleek can mean so many different things but one of my favorite romantic sleek styles is classic Hollywood waves—I have an IGTV tutorial here:

SH: What is the best way to achieve a wavy look?

BS: I have a quick Undone Texture 101 IGTV below. It'll explain one of my go-to ways to get quick and easy waves!

SH: What is the best way to show off natural/curly locks?

BS: Prepping natural waves and curls while still damp is key for optimum results. While on set I really try to minimize heat touch-ups for natural curls and instead lean into moisturizing products like Mizani True Textures Curl Enhancing Lotion ($18) on lightly dampened sections and finger coil to add definition where needed!

SH: Do you have any favorite styles girls should rock this Valentine's Day?

BS: I'm all about maximizing your HQ (happiness quotient) this Valentine's Day and in general—wear what makes you feel the absolute most amazing and happy!
