Why Do Beauty Vloggers Drip Oil on Their Faces?

Chances are, you've seen many a beauty YouTuber drip pink or gold-flecked oil down their face and pretend to cry, prior to applying their makeup.

At first, we thought it was odd, but the more and more we saw beauty vloggers doing this, it got us wondering if they were applying the oil in this unique way for a reason.

First off, it's weird. Why would you take an oil-dropper to your face and let just let the product run down? It definitely doesn't seem practical or efficient, especially when the oil costs a pretty penny.

Secondly, there seems to be a theme here: All the vloggers are dripping the same oils down their face. They're by a brand called Farsali, and people are going wild for the Rose Gold Elixir ($54) and the Unicorn Essence ($54). The latter's been dubbed "unicorn tears," thanks to its pink shimmery color and this new technique.

The Rose Gold Elixir has 24 karat gold flakes in it for luminosity and is a great daily facial oil with a citrus aroma, thanks to ingredients like rosehip seed oil, pumpkin seed oil, vitamin E, lemongrass oil and orange peel oil.

On their website, it's directed to be applied with a sponge or brush, and used for hydrating lips, mixing with foundation or reviving dried cream products. And we get the hype—the product's loaded with moisturizing and anti-aging properties that will leave your skin hydrated and glowy all day long.

But… how did the whole face-dripping phenomenon start? We sleuthed around and noticed that the Farsali brand was created by Sal Ali, the husband of Toronto-based beauty YouTuber Farah Dhukai, as a solution to her beauty concerns. But after scrolling through Farah's feed, it doesn't look like she started the oil dripping trend. So, we reached out to a few vloggers, and got the following response.

So it sounds like the verdict is that no one really knows who started this trend. And while it looks quite cute, we're still going to err on the practical side and suggest you apply the oil with your fingers or with a sponge. It also goes to show just how fast crazy trends can spread on the internet!

And while we're talking about YouTubers… THESE are Kandee Johnson's favorite beauty products!
