Jadah Marie has made quite the name for herself as a musical phenomenon in Descendants 3 and Julie and the Phantoms, but it’s her career as a solo musical artist that’s really caught our attention.

The actor, singer, cheerleader and gymnast can do it all, and we can’t stop listening to recent single “Staycation,” which is vibrant, bubbly and inspiring in the face of the challenges happening around us in the world.

We had the opportunity to ask Jadah Marie all about the song and what it means to her, and what it’s been like to join the cast of incredible Disney and Netflix musicals. Keep reading to find out what she had to say.

Sweety High: What was the songwriting process behind “Staycation”?

Jadah Marie: The process behind my single “Staycation” was based on this pandemic. I wanted to let everyone know I understood the frustration of quarantine, not being able to have any fun and travel. I wanted to shine a brighter light on this situation by taking their mind somewhere else and giving them a place to go—a “Staycation.”

SH: How has the pandemic changed the way you make music, if at all?

JM: This pandemic has made me more creative and patient. It gives me time to really reflect on life.

SH: Are there any artists that are particularly inspiring you during these unusual times?

JM: Yes! During this pandemic, I’ve had an opportunity to listen to all types of music. From oldies to Sza, Summer Walker, Kehlani, Brent Faiyaz and more.

SH: Do you have any advice for having the best staycation possible?

JM: Go somewhere you can have fun and be yourself.

SH: How has being part of the casts of films like Julie and the Phantoms and Descendants 3 impacted your music career?

JM: Working on two musicals back to back really helped my confidence in singing and writing music.

SH: How are you similar to your character, Julie and the Phantoms character, Flynn?

JM: Flynn is very funny and is a sneakerhead, like myself.
