This week was especially historic for music-lovers everywhere, with new releases by everyone from Mod Sun and Yung Gravy to YDE, Dixie D’Amelio and Halsey, making it harder than ever to narrow our faves down to just 10 picks. 1. CHYLD Drops Infectious Sophomore EP, Be Patient

We love indie pop-electronic artist and producer CHYLD ‘s signature sound, with irresistible beats that are anything but predictable, and his new EP, Be Patient, is the ultimate showcase of what he has to offer as a musician. From the hooky title track to the soaring “Stupid for You,” we can only hope this collection of songs can propel CHYLD to the heights he plainly deserves. “I haven’t felt this content in a long time,” CHYLD told Sweety High. “My Be Patient EP let me express that, and I haven’t felt that in a project before. This EP in particular has made me very grateful that I have music as my outlet.”

2. Tessa Kaye Shares Coming Out Anthem ‘Girl, I Wanna Be Your Girlfriend’

While the process of coming out can be a stressful and anxiety-ridden time for many, Tessa Kaye’s vibrant new single “Girl, I Wanna Be Your Girlfriend,” emphasizes the freedom that can come along with opening up and coming to terms with your sexuality. The alt-pop artist professes her feelings in this tune with a chill, even cozy sound that tells a queer story of the joys of new romance. In a press release, Tessa shared that the song is about “the sheer excitement that comes with feeling free, open, being true to myself and falling in love.”

3. Justus Bennetts Doesn’t Mind Being Walked All Over in ‘Girls’

Justus Bennetts is known for masterfully blending rock, pop and hip-hop into the catchiest tracks, and his latest single, “Girls,” is no exception. Inspired by his girlfriend, the song is all about the importance of authentic connection, and being willing to make sacrifices for someone you really love. “It basically just means I’ll love you no matter what, in a fun way,” Justus shared in an interview with Sweety High. “You can walk over me and do whatever you want, we are still gonna have a good time. I hope this message translates to the listeners because a lot of people give up on each other so quickly and it’s hard to find real genuine connections.”

4. Sarah Kinsley Runs Toward the Future on New Cypress EP

We’re still struggling to comprehend the incredible range and versatility that Sarah Kinsley puts on display in her new Cypress EP. It’s just five songs, but the journey it takes listeners through feels so much bigger than that, telling Sarah’s self-reflective story of growth, and coming to peace with the unknowns of the future. “Cypress is searching,” Sarah revealed in an interview with Sweety High. “A displacement of time. Anger, frustration. Resentment. Bitterness. Bitter sweetness. Tenderness. Loving. Chasing, holding back. I often feel when I listen back to the songs of Cypress that I am running. I’m not sure what from, or towards just yet. And I like this inability to place the origin, to perceive the future. It’s very freeing. I hope listeners feel this sense of possibility as they travel with me.”

5. Tamino Drops Mesmerizing New Single ‘Fascination’

If you’re not already a fan of Belgian-Egyptian artist Tamino, prepare to be mesmerized. The alt-indie artist is known for his experimental work, infusing his music with Arabic folk traditions to create something entirely new, and his new song “Fascination” is something truly special. With Tamino’s lullaby-like voice over soaring rock sounds, the songs seems to follow the deterioration of a relationship, and coming to the realization that the other person never cared as much as he did. It’s just a taste of his upcoming Sahar album, out Sep. 23, and we can’t wait.

6. Mod Sun Reveals the Self-Love Anthem of the Summer With ‘Perfectly Imperfect’

We can all use a little reminder to stop comparing ourselves to others and start loving the people we are, and that’s exactly what Mod Sun’s “Perfectly Imperfect” achieves. The driving pop-punk track uses its upbeat sound to remind us all to and embrace ourselves in the funnest way possible. “Is it not strange that ‘I’m Perfect’ and ‘Imperfect’ are spelled the exact same way?” asked Mod Sun in a press release. “There’s a message in that… we are all perfect just the way we are. Growing up in this day and age, it’s hard to not compare our lives to others. ‘Perfectly Imperfect’ is a self-love anthem about embracing yourself and your differences. We are all special. I’ll never be exactly like my idols and heroes and that’s amazing because I am me! Also, It’s summertime and all we are hearing is sad songs… the world needs some happiness right now.”

7. Yung Gravy Shares His Take on ‘Never Gonna Give You Up’ in ‘Betty (Get Money)’

Even though Rick Astley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up” is a bit of a meme at this point, it’s also a banger, and is the perfect backbone to Yung Gravy’s new song, “Betty (Get Money).” This new take on the ’80s classic transforms the message of never giving up into one of never backing down, going after your dreams and getting that money. “‘Betty’ is a dope one,” Yung Gravy said in a press release. “It’s inspired by Betty White, RIP. I reserved the title for one of my favorite songs.”

8. YDE Embraces Transformation in ‘Old Her’

YDE has never failed to stun us with her powerful songwriting, creating music that’s as insightful and biting as it is sonically inspiring, and in her first single of the year, “Old Her,” she shows that she hasn’t lost her touch. In fact, she’s as transcendent as ever. With a quirky piano melody and driving bassline, YDE sings about fully embracing the changes and transformations that occur with people with time, and how we cling to the past, despite the new versions of us also being the best versions. Not only is in inspiring, but it also reminds us that we, too, are just growing and getting better as we move into the future.

9. Dixie D’Amelio Proves Herself With Debut Album, a letter to me

Dixie D’Amelio may have her doubters when it comes to her musical career, but we sincerely think that a single listen to her debut album, a letter to me, will put all of that misguided suspicion to rest. Across 15 striking tracks, Dixie puts all of her soulfulness and vocal prowess on display. The ukulele-driven title track is an especially confident and heartfelt ballad that will be quick to win you over. “This is deeply personal to me because it not only shows my growth professionally and musically, but I really wanted it to represent past and present experiences that haven’t been the easiest to overcome for me,” Dixie explained in a press release. “I’m excited for fans and listeners to hear it because I think they’ll all be able to find ways to connect to the songs and the lyrics.”

10. Halsey Explores Heartbreak in ‘So Good’

Halsey never misses, and her brand new single, “So Good” is the perfect summer song if you’re feeling perfectly heartbroken. It’s a complicated love story about something she thought was destined before it fell apart, and wishing it could continue. “The film we created for ‘So Good’ really tells the full story of the song in the way I intended,” Halsey said in a press release. “Alev and I were able to share a glimpse of the way that we fell in love: watching romantic films together. But this time, the Freestyle is playing real home movies from our life together. For us, this makes ‘So Good’ come to life in a really special way that we’re so excited share with fans.”
