A Definitive Ranking of the Most Popular Nail Colors
Some people care about having perfect brows. Others emphasize their hair, makeup or fashion choices. For us, we are all about having a flawless manicure. Honestly, having freshly painted nails always gives us a confidence boost, and it makes us feel even more put together when we do our other beauty routines.
Unsurprisingly, we have been getting manicures regularly since middle school, so we've done pretty much every color under the sun and have some strong opinions about them. Curious to learn more? Discover our definitive ranking of the most popular shades.
8. Yellows, Oranges and Greens
Sorry, not sorry. But there are simply too many shades of yellow, orange and green that are far from flattering, and there are very few complexions that look good in these hues. That said, a soft butter yellow and sage green are exceptions to this category. Everything else can go.

7. Blues and Purples
Some of us at Sweety High enjoy wearing blue and purple nail polish because we have cool undertones. However, wearing blue and purple can look odd on warm (and sometimes neutral) skin tones. If it was a bit more versatile, it would rank higher.
6. White
Well, you technically can't go wrong with white. It complements any shade. It looks nice with every skin color, from the deepest to the palest. However, it still isn't a shade we often ask our nail techs to paint. White is too bright and can be more of an eye-catcher than we'd like.
5. Pink
Pink can be hit or miss. Neon pink, for example, is a color we avoid because, as we said earlier, we aren't huge fans of loud nail polish. However, soft pinks are some of our favorite polishes to choose. They look effortlessly feminine and offer an enhanced natural look.
4. Glitter
Everything looks better with glitter, right? Even the colors we ranked lowest, such as yellow, can be enhanced with shimmer, so don't get us started on glitter in the colors we love. That said, there is a time and place for glitter. We'd wear it every day if we could, but we may need something more understated for everyday or professional settings.

3. Black
Between white and black, we are definitely team black. Black makes a statement if you want it to, but it can also blend into your everyday outfit. Like white, since it is a simple shade, it works with any skin color and undertone. The only reason it loses points is because it has a tendency to stain.
2. Nude (or French)
Nude and French nails are like the elevated version of a soft pink. There is something so timeless about them. One of the main reasons we love them so much is because of how wearable and low-maintenance they are. It won't be obvious when your nails are grown out at all.
1. Red
So, red isn't the most practical shade, but we've somehow made it work with anything. It doesn't matter if you are currently wearing blue, yellow, pink or purple. Somehow, red works as a flawless accent to any other color. Also, doesn't every cool girl swear by nail polish? Think about how many iconic shades are red—Chanel's Vamp, OPI's Big Apple Red and so many more.
