Japanese Girl Group cosmosy Discuss Breaking Through Toxic Love in New Single
by Tayah Fox
Meet cosmosy, the four-member Japanese girl group blending three languages into one global sound.
Debuting in April 2025 with the single "Lucky=One," himesha, de_hana, kamión and a'mei drew the public's attention, surpassing 13 million streams across streaming platforms. Now with their second official single, "BabyDon'tCry=BreakingTheLove," the quartet showcases a riveting emotional experience in a classical-electronic package.
"BabyDon'tCry=BreakingTheLove" opens with a lavish string harmony before introducing modern elements, including the deep booming roar of the 808 bass and electrifying synths. In the song, cosmosy displays a show of strength and determination as they break free from love corrupted by lies and manipulation. As new generation idols, the group continues to inspire younger fans with their dedication to cultural diversity through with this release, singing in Japanese, Korean and English. Sweety High chatted with cosmosy ahead of their new single to discuss their sights on a global reach and "BabyDon'tCry=BreakingTheLove." Read our full interview below.
Sweety High: The group sings in multiple languages, highlighting its global aspect. Can you tell us how challenging that is and how you manage to overcome those difficulties?
cosmosy: Yes, we do sing in various languages! To be transparent, at the beginning, we have gotten the languages mixed up here and there, but what's important is that we kept learning and studying, and the support we got from each other and our team. We find that watching shows or movies with said languages helps us grasp how to pronounce and speak them better. Eventually, from there, it got much easier. Practice makes perfect! That's how you can overcome any difficulty.
SH: What is the most important thing you keep in mind when blending K-pop and J-pop elements in your music?
cosmosy: We try to bring the best of both worlds together in a way that feels natural and fresh. We need to respect the cultural roots of each genre. We also aim to strike a harmony that reflects both styles while adding our own unique twist. At the end of the day, we just want our music to resonate with fans no matter where they're from, and blending these elements helps us connect with more people more deeply.

SH: What does "BabyDon'tCry=BreakingThelove" mean to you, and what message do you hope listeners leave with?
cosmosy: "BabyDon'tCry=BreakingTheLove" is about girls standing up for themselves—breaking away from a love full of lies and fake feelings, and choosing to stay true to their emotions and each other. By singing in Korean, Japanese and English, we're sharing that message with people all around the world, no matter the language.
SH: What's a standout lyric from "BabyDon'tCry=BreakingThelove" and what is its significance?
cosmosy: "I'm breaking the everlasting pretty love" stands out to us because it represents the difficult and sometimes painful process of ending a relationship that was once considered beautiful or enduring. It conveys a sense of disillusionment and the challenging realization that a once-desired love is no longer realistic, giving us the courage to move on.
SH: Your debut single amassed over 13 million streams! What was your reaction to seeing so much support for your first release?
cosmosy: We were so excited and happy to receive 13 million streams. We were not expecting this at all, so thank you to all our fans and listeners for the support! We love you!

SH: Can you describe cosmosy's concept and sound to those who want to become fans?
cosmosy: Our overall concept is "Cosmos of Youth," symbolizing "the possibilities of youth," "the infinite universe," and "growth and conflict." It's all about exploring the universe within ourselves and connecting people across galaxies, literally and emotionally. We blend cosmic, futuristic themes with deeply human emotions like love, longing, strength and self-discovery. Our image balances softness and strength: we can be dreamy and ethereal in one song, and bold and powerful in the next. Leaning into "exploring the universe," our sound is a fusion of K-pop's sharp production and performance style with the melodic, emotional richness of J-pop. Whether we're singing in Korean, Japanese or other languages, our goal is to create music that feels like a journey—one that brings people together, no matter where they're from.

SH: You're still fresh in your careers as a group, what would a future cosmosy album sound and look like?
cosmosy: Even though we're still early in our careers, we're already dreaming big about what a future cosmosy album could be. We imagine it as a full exploration of our universe, both visually and musically. We would like to try mixing genres like synth-pop, R&B and even some orchestral or ambient elements to create that ethereal feeling. We want each track to feel like you're traveling to a different planet—some energetic and explosive, others quiet and emotional. We're excited thinking about it!
SH: Lastly, is there anything you want to say about your new release?
cosmosy: We hope you love it! We're so excited to share it with the world and we hope you enjoy listening to it as much as we do!
