Go Green By Following in THESE Celebs' Footsteps
Earth Day may not be the biggest celebration of the year, but it's certainly one of the most important holidays to observe.
To be honest though, celebrating the entire earth is a pretty broad undertaking. Many people like to give back on this holiday by planting a tree or choosing a bike over a car, but when it comes to longterm green goals, we can get a little overwhelmed.

If you want to become more eco-friendly but aren't sure where to begin, take a look at these celebs who are making the world a greener place one cause at a time:
It's not hard to remember the name of this celeb's foundation, as it's named after the actor himself. Leo started his organization, the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation, in 1998 as a way of preserving the world's wildlife. The four main environmental areas of interest are protecting biodiversity, ocean conservation, wildlands conservation and climate change. From saving animals from extinction to preventing such drastic climate dangers in the future, this celeb is focused on building a greener world every day.
Just like Leo, this Vampire Diaries actor has created his own organization named after himself, the Ian Somerhalder Foundation. While the word "earth" may immediately bring up images of rain forests and oceans, all of the planet's inhabitants are just as important to protect. This celeb has been dedicated to the environment one pet at a time by creating a foundation whose mission is to protect animals by supporting no-kill shelters and rescuing pets from neglectful homes. In addition, the organization promotes education and empowerment of other environmental issues such as conservation of natural resources.
You know this celeb best as Cher from the '90s movie, Clueless. But these days Alicia is far from clueless as she is an advocate for clean, healthy, eco-friendly living. After writing her vegan guide, The Kind Diet, she launched an interactive website called, The Kind Life. On this blog you'll find everything you need to know from little ways you can remain environmentally friendly each day to which charities or organizations could use your support. For the newcomers to the green game, this site will be a gentle ease into the environmental lifestyle.
Happy Earth Day! As you know (and probably similarly feel), every day is earth day for me. Actor Mark Ruffalo is all about keeping the environment clean in order to protect the longevity of earth and all of its inhabitants. He has two foundations, The Solutions Project, which focuses on transitioning to 100% clean renewable energy, and the Water Defense, which is a non-profit dedicated to keeping water clean and free from contamination. When he isn't being nominated for Academy Awards, Mark is not only dedicated, but optimistic, about our environmental task at hand.
Mark Ruffalo isn't the only actor insisting on clean water. Actress Shailene Woodley has demonstrated that she is a fighter for environmental and humanitarian rights as she was a firm protester against the Dakota Access Pipeline. Her speech about the importance of contamination-free water for Standing Rock at the Environmental Media Association Awards earned her a standing ovation from the audience. Shailene is obviously passionate about water standards and safety and perhaps that's your calling, too.
A few years back, Hayden was honored by the Environmental Media Association with the Futures Award for her work alongside the Whaleman Foundation. This actress is all about ocean conservation and marine wildlife preservation. But her dedication to saving the world's whale and dolphin population didn't end there. You can visit the online shop, Hayden's Closet, to browse a variety of accessories and apparel, all owned or worn by Hayden, and a percentage of the proceeds will go towards saving the ocean. Really, this seems like a win-win-win situation.
Getting involved doesn't always mean campaigning. Thanks to THESE stylish brands, you can give back to a variety of causes all while staying on trend!
