Mila Nabours Reveals the Relatable Message Behind Original New Single 'In My Thoughts'

15-year-old actress, dancer, singer and gymnast Mila Nabours is a girl of many talents, and her latest single "In My Thoughts" is proof that singing and songwriting are toward the top of that list.

The influencer's new song, "In My Thoughts" featuring Will B., has a rousing, epic sound with anthemic vocals that really drive its point home, and we got the chance to ask Mila all about how the wonderful track came to be. Read below to find out, and get the song here!

Sweety High: What was the songwriting process behind " In My Thoughts"? What kind of sound were you looking to capture along with the song's themes?

Mila Nabours: The first step of the writing process was figuring out what topic/story I wanted to portray in the song. I wanted to write about something meaningful to me as well as powerful, and I feel like the song portrays that sense of soul and depth in the melody really well. This along with the lyrics, of course. The melody resembles a sort of rock or hard-hitting vibe, and I feel like this really matches the theme of the lyrics.

SH: Do you feel that the song is based on feelings you experience often?

MN: Absolutely! One of the reasons this song is so meaningful to me is because of how closely I relate to it. Feelings of unsureness as well as the lack of ability to say what I feel have been feelings I've experienced quite often through my teenage years.

SH: Do you have any advice for anyone constantly getting trapped in their own thoughts and not knowing how to break out of them?

MN: Breaking away from a certain feeling is something that you may not be able to do right away, but centering yourself and finding the center of the problem is definitely a big step. Figuring out exactly what you feel can be really difficult, but if that's something you can become aware of, expressing it vocally to someone might help clear your mind. If it's a matter of constantly overthinking things, which happens to me a lot, a big thing would be to simply let it go. It sounds generic, but closing your eyes and taking a deep breath when you catch yourself getting to a really anxious point will help relieve tension.

SH: What does this song mean to you?

MN: Since this is my first original, it has the most personal value to me. I wrote it from a sentimental place, and that's how I was able to bring genuine emotion to it.

SH: What is your favorite lyric from the track?

MN: Tough question! I don't know if I could pick a single lyric, but one of my favorite phrases would be "When I talk my honesty is confined." I'd say this is my favorite line because it represents the idea of keeping things inside, which is essentially the main theme of the song.

SH: Which artists would you say are your biggest inspirations at the moment?

MN: A couple huge inspirations of mine are Dean Lewis and Lewis Capaldi. Both of these artists bring such raw emotion to their music, and the build-up structure throughout their songs always leaves me with chills! When I listen to their music I feel the soul, and that to me is the most crucial part about music.

SH: Is there anything else you'd like to add?

MN: I hope this song will hit home to anybody who may face the same mental challenges, because it's an unfortunate thing that affects the best of us. If you'd like to check out my music, you can find me on all major streaming platforms under Mila Nabours.
