Moody Joody Talk Their Cheeky and Carefree New Single ‘OOPS!’ and Tease Their Upcoming Album
Up-and-coming pop trio Moody Joody are on a roll, and after releasing their debut EP, Dream Girl at the tail end of 2024 and generating tons of buzz with performances at SXSW, Austin City Limits and more, they're stepping into a new musical era.
The group, consisting of lead vocalists Kaitie Forbes and Kayla Hall and producer Andrew Pacheco, released their fun and funky new single "OOPS!" on Nov. 5. It's a pulse-thumping, shimmery pop anthem to the wild nights out that you might slightly regret—but not enough not to do it all over again soon. The playful music video also shows Kaitie and Kayla showing up to transform a lifeless gathering into a high-energy party, making us extra excited to hear what else they're working on as they put together their upcoming album. We got the change to catch up with the group to learn all about the new song and more in the interview below.
Sweety High: What inspired you to write an anthem to wild, mistake-laden nights with "OOPS!"?
Kayla Hall: There was overall a lighthearted, fun energy in the studio at the time we wrote "OOPS!" Couple that energy with a little bit of New York City writing magic in the winter with Scott Harris, a little bit of inspiration by the Ting Tings, a little bit of post-breakup party girl era crashing out with a cheeky little IDGAF attitude and voila! "OOPS!"
Kaitie Forbes: Living in Nashville (east Nashville, to be exact) can definitely lead to some wild nights. We have had plenty of these nights together that felt like they deserved a moment, haha.

SH: Do you have any advice for kind of taking your regrets in stride and instead embracing living in the moment?
Kayla: I definitely feel like I live my life authentically and unapologetically. I'm a type B, messy Gemini, and what you see is what you get. Living my life spontaneously has led me to some of the best memories I have and sure, I'd make some decisions differently along the way. But you live and you learn and you grow. To quote Hannah Montana, "Everybody makes mistakes, everybody has those days … nobody's perfect!"
Kaitie: I guess I try to remind myself that the life I didn't choose isn't a real life, it's just a thought or an imagination. So I try not to pour energy into regrets over something that never actually existed and I try to embrace the road I'm on now, whatever that may be.
SH: What are each of your favorite lyrics from the track? Why?
Kayla: I think the bridge "I cross my heart, I hope to die, I pinky swear, I'm staying in tonight… OOPS!" would have to be my favorite lyrics from the song because of how cheeky and chanty it is. It was so fun to perform live, too, and see the audience's response to this sarcastic tone about something so relatable about promising to stay in and then going out—we've all been there.
Kaitie: "I cross my heart, I hope to die, I pinky swear, I'm staying in tonight!" I love the cheekiness and sarcasm haha. I love how playful it feels in the live show, too.
Andrew Pacheco: I like the "lemon drops, looking extra hot just to get my sweet revenge" line in the second verse. It's a fun lyric and I just love how the rhythmic flow switches up a little there.

SH: What was the inspiration behind the music video for the track? Why did the Coyote Ugly vibes match the mood of the song?
Kayla: The inspiration behind the music video actually came from how line dancey the track felt from the start! Even in the studio we would do a little dance and clap and it always felt very inspired by that. Katie Kerr came up with the choreography for "OOPS!" for our set at Austin City Limits which also lived in the music video. I remember on our February tour with Arizona watching Coyote Ugly in the van and how iconic of a movie it is. Luke Rogers, our creative director for the next era and director of the "OOPS!" music video, really helped us hone in and put the pieces together.
Kaitie: We love a nostalgic callback, and imagined a girls gone wild, dancing on the bar moment. Coyote Ugly just felt right haha.
SH: Do you have a favorite memory from shooting the video?
Kayla: I think there's too many to name just one! For starters, Andrew showed up to the set dressed in character and didn't break character the entire time we were there—whether we were shooting or not. There was also a time when Kaitie and I were dancing on tables and we had to have Andrew and my friend Chaila holding on to the tables underneath them so we didn't fall off the top of them, and that's true love right there. Dancing in front of our friends and coworkers while they had to keep straight faces was also a favorite moment!
Kaitie: Andrew not breaking character the entire day! Haha
Andrew: It definitely wasn't eating that dry peanut butter sandwich in the beginning. Felt like glue in my mouth.

SH: Is there anything you can tease about the album you're working on? Where does "OOPS!" fit into the wider narrative of the project?
Kayla: "OOPS!" is about not taking life too seriously—I think there's definitely an element of the upcoming album where it feels right to kind of poke fun at ourselves around this feeling of being a little messy because those feelings are really relatable. Part of our ethos as a band has always been owning our humanness and owning who we are as women and all of the elements of that—showing up unapologetically and confidently.
Kaitie: "OOPS!" is definitely the party song of the album and felt like an exciting and bold intro to the new era. It will be surrounded by many emotions, stories and the "why" of "OOPS!" will make a lot of sense when all pieced together.
Andrew: The album as a whole is very conceptual, and "OOPS!" is just one piece of a bigger narrative, both sonically and lyrically.
SH: Anything else coming up next for the band?
Kayla: We're working on a ton of new music the rest of the year. Hopefully letting the new music live in the world of a live show as much as possible in 2026!
Kaitie: Lots of new music of course, and lots of shows in 2026!
