Nate Buescher on Playing Heartthrob Lucas in Disney Channel’s Hit Musical Series, Electric Bloom

2025 has been a massive year for girl groups, and one of our favorites has been the fictional trio, Electric Bloom, from the musical comedy Disney Channel series of the same name.

The hilarious and relatable new show has the world-famous group—Posey, Jade and Tulip—telling the band's origin story, starting with their fateful meeting back in high school. Their story comes to life in the form of the events that inspired their biggest songs, and the soundtrack is packed with their catchy originals.

18-year-old actor Nate Buescher joins the cast as Lucas Jasper, the slightly clueless school heartthrob—and Electric Bloom's No. 1 supporter.

Electric Bloom started airing on the Disney Channel in July, and today, Sep. 17, it premieres on Disney+, with the first 13 episodes dropping all at once. To celebrate, we got to speak with Nate to learn more about Lucas and his experiences as part of the Electric Bloom cast. Read our full interview below.

Sweety high: When did you discover your passion for acting? Was there any specific a-ha moment that made you realize it was the path for you?

Nate Buescher: I was 7 when I did my first TV show. I didn't really know what acting was; I just knew I liked being on set. Everyone was locked in, doing their thing, and it felt like I was part of something cool. I wouldn't say there was one big moment, but over time I realized I kept wanting to come back. It never felt like work. It just felt like where I was supposed to be.

SH: Can you tell us a little bit about Electric Bloom? What is the series about, and what can you tell us about your character, Lucas?

NB: Electric Bloom follows Posey, Jade and Tulip, an unlikely trio who end up forming one of the biggest girl groups in the world. It's part high school, part stadium tour, and all about friendship, music and figuring out who you are. It's got heart, it's hilarious and it connects with people of all ages.

I play Lucas Jasper. He's the class crush, whether he knows it or not. Posey, Jade and Tulip definitely notice when he walks by. He's a mix of poetic and clueless, someone who can trip over his own backpack two seconds after saying something unexpectedly wise. Lucas means well, even when he's not totally sure what's going on. He's Electric Bloom's (the band's) biggest supporter, and is always in their corner. And sometimes, without trying, he says something wise enough to stop everyone mid-sentence.

SH: Would you say that you and Lucas are alike? What would you say are your biggest similarities and your biggest differences?

NB: There are definitely parts of Lucas that feel familiar. He's loyal, he shows up for people and he's not afraid to say something real, even if he doesn't realize how much it lands until later. I've had moments where I've said something and only found out later that it stuck with someone. So yeah, that quiet kind of wisdom? I relate to that.

We're different too. Lucas doesn't always know what's going on, and I like to think I'm a little more aware of what's happening around me. He's more floaty, more in his own world. I tend to notice things, but I respect how he moves through things. He's not trying to be cool or deep. He just is.

SH: Without saying too much, can you tell us anything about any of your favorite moments on set with the cast?

NB: Some of the best moments are just chilling between takes or grabbing lunch together and talking about scenes, figuring out weekend plans, and filming random TikToks. There's always someone trying to sneak in a joke or mess with someone's stuff. It's easy, and it makes the long days feel short.

SH: The show follows a girl group looking back on the story of the band. Who would you say is your all-time favorite girl group?

NB: Electric Bloom, of course. They're the band I didn't know I was missing in my life. I'll be walking around, not even thinking about it, and I'm singing one of their songs. Also, Lauryn Hill and SZA (even though they aren't bands) are always in the mix.

SH: What are your biggest passions outside of acting? What's one thing you're most proud of right now?

NB: I'm into sports, both college and pro, and I take my fantasy football team way too seriously. I listen to music constantly, and hip hop dance has always been a real passion. I used to perform. Now I just mess around when it feels right. I love traveling and experiencing new places, new energy, and different ways people live. Giving back is also important to me. Back in Chicago, I started making meals with my mom for people living in tent communities.

This year had a lot going on. Filming, AP classes, moving to a new city. I kept my balance and didn't let it mess with me.

SH: Where else can we see your work at the moment?

NB: You can also check me out on Circuit Breakers on Apple TV+. Or go back a bit and find me on APB on FOX.

SH: Is there anything else our readers should know about you and the series?

NB: Electric Bloom is one of those shows where everything clicks—the cast, the writing and the music. Disney gave us room to make something real, and I'm proud to be part of it.

Electric Bloom is currently available on Disney Channel and streaming on Disney+.
