Here's Our Definitive Ranking of IHOP's 9 Most Popular Pancakes
With a slogan like "Pancakes. Pancakes. Pancakes." it should come as no surprise that IHOP knows their way around a griddle.
While it's always tough to contend with a classic stack of hot cakes, this establishment really knows how to embellish their signature buttermilk.
If you're a pancake girl like us, then you need to read our definitive ranking of IHOP's specialty cakes. But be warned: While everyone's taste buds may differ, no one is safe from the cravings that these pancakes will produce.
9. Harvest Grain 'N Nut Pancakes
Nuts, you know? While we aren't always immediately put off by the seemingly "healthy" option, we just can't back the decision to dice up nuts into a batter that's notably soft and fluffy. A dense brownie—sure why not! But a pillowy cloud of breakfast heaven—we'll pass, thanks. We'd also like to point out that while these pancakes masquerade as the fit option, they weigh in as the most caloric choice on the pancake menu. Not that we expect our breakfast treat to be light and fit, but we just don't like feeling lied to…
8. Rooty Tooty Fresh 'N Fruity Pancakes
Rooty tooty may be right, but, honestly, we'd take the "fresh" out of this fruity display. These pancakes are basically just a stack of original buttermilk (good start) but the added canned topping isn't really impressing us. With your choice of peach, strawberry or raspberry topping, a dollop of this syrupy mess collides with the thick and fluffy pancakes underneath. Scrape off the rooty tooty and you've got yourself a delicious base, however.
7. Double Blueberry Pancakes
Two heads may be better than one, but when it comes to blueberry pancakes, this double means trouble. Blueberry pancakes are classic, and sometimes you don't need to mess with a good thing. The fruit that comes loaded on top of these cakes is a little overwhelming. And, oddly enough, these pancakes don't burst with blue from the inside like they do from the out. We don't want to say the word "disappointing" comes to mind, but, yeah, we're feeling a little blue about these cakes.
6. Red Velvet Pancakes
Red velvet is a mysterious concoction. The color tricks our brains into forgetting that this flavor should come through as chocolatey, all while the cream cheese frosting continues to confuse our taste buds. That said, we definitely love this illusory flavor. However, when it comes to IHOP, we have to admit that the frosting plus powdered sugar takes this sweet hot cake to a scary level. Our taste buds are more confused than ever when biting into this stack. Though, if you order the pancakes sans frosting you may find yourself very satisfied.
5. Cupcake Pancakes
Don't you just want to stare at these beauties all day long? Le sigh. For presentation, these cakes come in first place. Unfortunately, we aren't totally sure about the taste. While the rainbow sprinkles are everything unicorn dreams are made of, we feel like a few too many sugary flecks mess with the texture of the buttermilk fluff. We also aren't sold on the cupcake icing that comes drizzled on top of these birthday-themed breakfast cakes. It's so sweet, some may call it sickly.
4. Strawberry Banana Pancakes
Strawberry and banana is a signature duo. The only problem with a simple yet classic flavor combo like this is that it really has to deliver. Thankfully, these cakes make the cut. They may have placed in the middle of our ranking, but that doesn't mean we wouldn't order these babies again. With banana chunks mixed inside the buttermilk as well as served on top next to sweet strawberries, this order was our jam. Simple, sure, but sweet nonetheless.
3. Chocolate Chocolate Chip Pancakes
You can never go wrong with chocolate, in our humble opinion. Unlike the Double Blueberry, twice the chocolate in these cakes is nothing but a good thing. For breakfast-goers who are looking for a dreamy dessert first thing in the morning, this stack makes the perfect order. The rich chocolate batter is complimented by the texture of full-size chocolate chips and the cream of a whipped topping. Basically, this stack can tackle even the biggest sweet tooth of them all.
2. New York Cheesecake Pancakes
Yes, yes and more yes. Can we get a "Hallelujah!" for the Big Apple?! Creamy cheesecake is the perfect addition to a stack of fluffy pancakes. With cheesecake pieces sprinkled throughout the classic buttermilk batter and topped with fresh strawberries, you really can't get any better than this dessert-inspired breakfast. We'd eat these for breakfast or dessert, and definitely wouldn't deny them at any other point throughout the day.
1. Original Buttermilk Pancakes
Is it cheating to say that the original is still our favorite? With all these delicious add-ons, sometimes you just crave the OG. These fluffy pancakes are perfectly sweet and buttery and compliment any signature maple syrup you dare to drench them in. When it comes to the perfect breakfast order, these cakes will keep you satisfied without overwhelming your taste buds or stressing out your stomach. Plus, that delicious buttermilk flavor comes through in this plain stack, unlike the others, which are topped with competing flavor combos. Honestly, we just love that honey-gold glow.
