5 Signs Your S.O. Isn’t ‘The One’

Finding "The One" is something we all desire.

No one wants to be alone for the rest of their lives, so we like to believe that there's one special person out there waiting just for us.

If you're currently in a relationship and wondering if you've found your person, below are five signs they're definitely not "The One."

1. You Don't Want the Same Things

The key to making any relationship work is communication. You both have to feel as though you're freely able to express your wants and needs. By now, you've hopefully both laid out what you want from this relationship. If you haven't, do so stat! If you have, and it turns out you have very different ideas of what your relationship is and where you see it going, then it's pretty obvious it isn't built to last.

2. Your Relationship Happened Very Fast

While the movies make it seem like falling head-over-heels for someone takes all of 30 seconds, they're totally wrong. It's great that you've bonded with someone so quickly, but that also means that your relationship will more than likely burn out as quickly as it began.

As the saying goes, nothing good comes easy. You have to put in some time and your due diligence to make a relationship work, so it shouldn't always be super easy.

3. You Can't Be Yourself Around Them

This one's a no-brainer. If you can't be yourself around your S.O., it's not destined to be. You shouldn't be wary of expressing yourself around your S.O. After all, they're supposed to love you for you, right? It's totally fine to not like the same things as your S.O., but if they continually show their disapproval for everything you enjoy and try to persuade you to like everything they like, that's not okay. You shouldn't have to change yourself to be with someone.

4. You Don't Trust Them

You should feel pretty secure in your relationship. Sure, there will be rough patches that you'll have to work through, but you should never have a persistent feeling that something is wrong. Maybe you feel this way because they've lied to you before, or they cheated on their previous partner. Either way, you shouldn't feel as though you can't trust them to be honest and faithful.

5. You're Worried About Your Future

Thinking about the future is totally unnerving, especially because you can never entirely predict what's going to happen. A solid relationship won't leave you guessing about your future together; you'll know, intuitively, that it's going to last. If you're always wondering if they'll be by your side forever, maybe your relationship isn't destined to go the distance, after all. Questioning, again and again, whether or not your relationship will stand the test of time only proves you haven't found "The One."
