5 Solo Activities if You’re Spending Thanksgiving Alone

While Thanksgiving can be a day of unification and good food, for many, it's no different than any other day on the calendar, whether cultural, religious or relational. But if you live in the United States where most stores and restaurants close or most of your friends are busy with family, you may feel isolated.

If you're someone who's spending Thanksgiving alone this year, you don't have to feel sad. Here are five ways to make the most of this upcoming Thursday, including self-care activities, productivity and more.

Baking for One

Instead of making a three-course dinner with sweet potatoes, turkey and pecan pie, keep things simple by baking your favorite sweet treat. Baking is super therapeutic (especially when you know what you're doing) and nothing will combat the potential blues of solitude more than some delicious desserts.

Fall Television Binge

We like to think of Thanksgiving as the last hurrah before going into full Christmas mode. So, there is no better time to have your fall television binge than the end of November. With most jobs and schools offering a four-day weekend, you have more than enough time to watch Gilmore Girls, Stranger Things and everything else you love with an autumnal aura.

Meditation and Manifestation

Combat your sadness by focusing on the good things in your life. To truly ground yourself in gratitude, enter total meditation mode by living in the moment. As you become more aware of your body and surrounding, get into the Thanksgiving spirit by affirming a few positive truths about yourself and the people, hobbies and items you're most grateful to have.

Self-Care Thursday

If baking and television didn't already have us feeling totally at peace, indulging in some self-care will. However, self-care looks different for everyone. For us, it's doing a face mask and having an everything shower (cleansing our hair before shaving and washing our body). Think about what brings you the most happiness and emphasize it throughout the day. Better yet, do multiple things you enjoy.

Getting a Head Start on Chores

And if all else fails, having the day off can give you the perfect opportunity to catch up on work and chores. You have 24 hours to finally scrub that shower until it sparkles, and maybe you can even reorganize your closet, figuring out what you'll donate to charity. When you're done, you can close the night off by catching up on emails or working on that final exam essay. Productivity is never a bad idea!
