Below, discover our favorite novels to break out during the changing seasons, from spooky romantic comedies to chilling mysteries.
A Night in the Lonesome October by Roger Zelazny
A Night in the Lonesome October is a classic. This book takes the point of view of notorious slasher Jack the Ripper's dog. As an "ancient and unearthly rite" approaches, the scaring and most daring, alive and undead, come to participate. Who is more observant of the night's activities than a wallflower pup?
Haunted Ever After by Jena DeLuca
The spooky nature of fall (and Halloween) doesn't mean you must abandon the feel-good sensation of a well-told love story. Jen DeLuca's Haunted Ever After pulls at your heartstrings while channeling autumnal energy.
This book's protagonist, Cassie Rutherford, notices some strange things happening on a tour. Once she does attend a ghost tour, she learns some of the town's secrets and gets closer to her mysterious guide, Nick.

Guess that leaves one person on the case: Theodosia.
Pumpkinheads by Rainbow Rowell & Faith Erin Hicks
Can we discuss how underrated graphic novels are? They allow you to see the story in a new light, from the characters' expressions to the scenery. One we pick up every year, without fail, is Rainbow Rowell's Pumpkinheads.
You'll meet two teens, Deja and Josiah, who seemingly become best friends while working at the town's pumpkin patch every fall. But when they enter their senior year and final year working at the patch, they realize they want to know each other through all the seasons.
Something Wicked This Way Comes by Ray Bradbury
The only thing more iconic than A Lonesome Night in the Lonesome October is Ray Bradbury's Something Wicked This Way Comes.
