6 Fun and Approachable Hobbies to Pick Up as an Adult
When you enter adulthood, you may feel like the only things in your life are work and romance. You might be okay with it for a while, but after days of all work and no play, you will get burnt out.
To prevent any fizzle, we recommend everyone have a hobby or two. Hobbies add purpose of your life—because finding enjoyment in your daily activities will add joy to your day-to-day. That said, not every hobby is approachable for adults, especially sports. Below, discover some of the best hobbies we recommend for anyone out of school.
Photography
In our opinion, the best hobbies for adults are the ones that allow you to work on your own time. Photography can be done anywhere, at any point. You can snap a photo when you're in the wild or in the city. As you grow into your creative eye, you'll notice the beauty and perspective in the smallest moments.
Plus, when you are an adult, you can make your own money. Therefore, you can invest in a high-quality camera with no fuss from your parents.

Pickleball
Normally, we wouldn't suggest adults to start a sport as an approachable hobby. There is a huge stigma that you must start at a young age to be competitive. The nice thing about pickleball is that there isn't a huge pressure to go pro.
If you've never played, pickleball is basically the lite version of tennis. The court is smaller and the ball is hit with less impact. As a result, it is much easier to dive into it and instantly be good.

Acting
Did you miss on the childhood fun of being a theater kid? It's never too late to start acting as an adult. Taking improv and scene study classes can help you reflect about how you react emotionally to different situations. Acting can be silly and embarrassing, but it may even help you confront your social anxiety.

Gardening
It can be very relaxing to get your hands dirty in nature. It goes back to our childhood instincts. The more mess we made, the more fun was had. Gardening is the adult version of that—getting your hands and knees covered in dirt. But the best part about it? You're actually being very productive. And if you grow your own fruits and vegetables, you'll know your ingredients are safe and chemical-free.
Diamond Painting
In a way, art (specifically drawing and painting) is like a sport. You feel pressured to start as a kid to be good as an adult, and it's very humbling to be bad as an adult. However, there is another option that doesn't involve too much artistic skill: diamond painting.
This art form is like the color-by-numbers. You simply apply the small diamond beads to its respective area. Then, voila! After hours of focus, you have a masterpiece.
Sewing
Sewing, crocheting and knitting use repetitive motions, which actually help you enter a state of mindfulness and relax. Although you might not be great the first few times, you'll begin to enjoy the more creative aspects of it once your skill improves. One day, you could even create your own clothes and skip the malls.
