Best Female Authors in the Psychological Thriller Genre in 2023

Raise your hand if you're a sucker for psychological thrillers!

We're right there with you—they're the ultimate page-turners and are next to impossible to put down until you've gotten to the end. These days, we're constantly reading psychological thrillers, and after reading tons of books (we might have too much time on our hands), we've been able to narrow it down to a list of our favorite authors in the genre. And better yet, they're all women, which is perfect since we just celebrated International Women's Day! Just keep scrolling to see who we're loving.

Freida McFadden

Have we read every single one of Freida McFadden's novels? Even the non-psychological thriller ones? Yes, yes we have. That's how captivating her words are. With each and every new story she tells, she somehow manages to throw curveballs at every corner and keep us guessing and wanting more. Some of our favorites from Freida include The Housemaid (and the sequel), Want to Know a Secret? and The Wife Upstairs. If you want to get into the genre, she's a great place to start.

Mary Kubica

We aren't afraid to admit that we've gone down a Mary Kubica rabbit hole and have read a majority of her published work. She's another author we crave to read, and that's all thanks to our first introduction to Mary through her best-selling novel Local Woman Missing. Since then, we've read The Other Mrs. and The Good Girl, to name a few.

K.L. Slater

With well over 2.5 million copies of her books sold, it's safe to say K.L. Slater is loved by pretty much anyone who picks up her books. A few standouts on her roster that we simply adored reading include The Apartment and The Silent Ones. Plus, if you're into e-books, we love the way they're easy to listen to and follow (that's how we read—or in this case, listened to—The Apartment).

Sue Watson

The first book we ever read by Sue Watson was The New Wife, and it was enough to get us hooked pretty much right away. From captivating storylines to never-been-done-before plot twists, we can't get over this incredible author's work! If you like not being able to predict the endings in books, you should absolutely read one of her books, like The Sister-In-Law or The Resort.

Jeneva Rose

We don't know if anyone has started a Jeneva Rose fan club, but we're pretty sure we're her No. 1 fans. From The Perfect Marriage to One of Us Is Dead and You Shouldn't Have Come Here, her books always seem to keep us reading into the wee hours of the night, promising that we'll devour just one more chapter. But somehow, it's hours later and we're still up!
