8 Things to Do Every Night to Ensure You Have a Restful Sleep
Do you ever wake up in the morning feeling super refreshed and just wish it could be like that every day?
Sometimes we get lucky and have an amazing night's sleep, but if you're not taking care of yourself, the chances of that happening are pretty slim. So, what are you supposed to do? Continue below to get a look at the eight things to do every night to ensure you have a restful and good night of sleep.
1. Put Away Your Devices
If you've ever found yourself trying your hardest to fall asleep but you just couldn't do it, think back to your night. Were you on your phone or watching TV leading right before you went to bed? Blue The blue light these devices emit tell your brain that it's daytime and keep you awake, so try to put away your devices at least one hour before sleeping. Also, invest in some blue-light-blocking glasses!
2. Go to Sleep at a Consistent Hour
When we train our bodies to go to bed at the same time every night, our chances of having a more restful sleep skyrocket. If you keep your body on its toes and change up the time every night, it will be confused and not know what to do! That's why it's so important to go to sleep at a consistent hour.
3. Brush Your Teeth
We don't know about you, but having unbrushed teeth at the end of the day is just not ideal. No one wants to go to bed with a gross mouth! Brushing your teeth is a pretty obvious thing you should do every night, but we just had to include it on this list.
4. Do Your Skincare Routine
Skincare routines are not only great for your skin, but they're so much fun, too! There's just something about lining up all of your nighttime skincare products and applying them in the right order that makes us so happy. If you're not looking like a glazed donut before you get into bed, you are not doing it right. Keep your skin nice and hydrated so that your sleep will be uninterrupted!
Whether you suffer from insomnia or it just takes you a while to actually doze off at night, reading can actually help out tons. We suggest getting a book light so that your bedroom lights can be off, that way your mind knows it's time for bed. Reading is not only a great exercise for your brain, but it actually helps put you to sleep, as well.
6. Avoid Liquids
When we say to avoid liquids, we mean any liquids leading up to bedtime— yes, even water! If you're drinking right before going to bed, your body will likely wake you up in the middle of the night to go pee, and that's not fun for anyone! You might need to test out a few different times—one hour before, two hours and so on, to see how long your body needs.
7. Meditate or Pray
Have you ever been in bed, trying your hardest to go to sleep, but your racing thoughts just won't let it happen? One of the best ways to stop this in its tracks is by meditating or praying and clearing your mind. There is no right or wrong way to do this, but they've been proven to help sleep. You can even play some soft music in the background.
8. Turn Off All of the Lights
Last but not least on our list of tips for having a restful sleep is to ensure that all of the lights are off. If you absolutely need a night light, that's totally fine, just make sure it's on the dimmer side. Having a dark room when you go to bed is the best way to train your body so that it's ready for bedtime.
