Lauren Vahdani Realizes She’s Not the Only One in the New Music Video for ‘Playin’ the Fool’

It's been a very busy couple of weeks for L.A. based country-pop singer-songwriter Lauren Vahdani.

Last week on May 30, the Texas-born rising star released her latest track, "Playin' the Fool." It's the sixth single off her upcoming debut album, A Million Little Heartbreaks, combining twangy country charm with a retro pop sounds and lovelorn vocals to tell a story of love and heartbreak as she falls for a guy she knows will only play games with her heart.

This week, the story becomes even richer with the release of the song's playful and cinematic music video. Directed by Taylor Hungerford, it shows Lauren as a musical artist working with a guitarist in a songwriting session. Chemistry sparks between them and a romance soon blossoms—but little does Lauren know, he's working with two other young women, and seeing all three of them.

Intercut with performance footage of Lauren in a room surrounded by red velvet curtains and a black-and-white tiled floor, reminiscent of Twin Peaks' red room, the video then shows the three singers going to see their shared beau's next big show. It's there that the three artists get wise, realizing they're not the only ones.

Together, they come to the conclusion he's only a waste of their time, ditching the boy to celebrate the new friendship they've forged with each other, instead. The trio rises above the situation outlined in the song, refusing to "play the fool" any longer.

"For the music video, I found a theme of getting out a situation and seeing things for what they were," Taylor wrote in a post on Instagram. "When we look back on something, all the angles are there. When so much action happening all at once, it seemed proper to show multiple storylines simultaneously, as you see in these triptych and diptych frames. I think it came out pretty nice and hope you do too."

Lauren also celebrated the epic music video release with a premiere event last night, June 4, at Harvard & Stone in Hollywood, where video was shared in an exclusive screening for the very first time.
