The Most Exciting TV Shows and Movies Based on Video Games
We often hear about book-to-film and television adaptations, but there are other types of media are equally exciting to see on the silver screen, like video games.
Video game adaptations are nothing new. Lara Croft and Resident Evil became movies in the early 2000s. But now, games are even more influential—and technology has only improved.
Below, discover a few of our favorite game adaptations you can watch now.
The Last of Us
The second season of The Last of Us recently premiered, and everyone and their cousin has been talking about it. So far, the series has been very faithful to the video game plot line, but if you know anything about the zombie apocalypse story, tears will be shed—especially in the latest episodes.

A Minecraft Movie
Almost every kid and adult played Minecraft in the early 2010s, and it's still popular in 2025. No one should be surprised they finally adapted into a hilarious movie about Steve and his adventures through the world. You'll see all your favorite characters, like creepers, as well as cameos from gaming content creators.
Sonic the Hedgehog
You'd expect Sonic the Hedgehog to be marketed towards children, but it is actually entertaining for all ages. These films have a rich storyline about Sonic's return to Earth. By the last installments, Shadow, Knuckles and Robotnik have joined the fun. We don't want to give too many spoilers, but the post-credit scene suggests we'll soon see Amy, too.
Arcane
League of Legends has been one of the most popular multiplayer online battle arena (MOBA) games. That said, there isn't too much of a storyline central to the gameplay. Arcane finally offers a rich backstory to iconic characters like Jinx and Vi. Plus, the art style for this series is beautiful.
Five Nights at Freddy's
Next to Minecraft, it seemed like Five Nights at Freddy's was the game that everyone played in the 2010s. Aside from the quick overnight survival game, the game's creator invited players to dive deeper into the FNaF universe with an assortment of novels.
Unsurprisingly, the film adaptation had a lot to choose from for its plot. They kept it simple with the iconic premise of Mike working as a the security guard, but here's to hoping the world only gets bigger and bigger with multiple sequels.

The 2021 movie will see Earthrealm attempting to take back the power from Outworld before the final round of the Mortal Kombat tournament. This is only the beginning, so stay tuned for the sequel premiering in October.
Uncharted
The Uncharted movie takes you on an action adventure roller coaster, much like its original IP. Starring Tom Holland and Mark Wahlberg, an unlikely pair teams up to find the ultimate treasure. But for Tom Holland's Nathan Drake, it's more than glory but also learning what happened to his brother who tragically disappeared.
