6 Cool, Underrated Perfumes from Indie Brands

Have you ever purchased and fell in love with a perfume, only to realize everyone around you also wears it? Us, too. We can sniff out someone wearing Ariana Grande's Cloud or Burberry's Her almost a mile away. Unfortunately, that makes it feel less personal to us.

Over the years, we've found a solution: indie perfumes. While most people will go to their local Macy's or Nordstrom, you'll probably be one of the few people who know your hidden gem spot.

To discover a fragrance that feels like you, consider purchasing one of these scents from these indie perfumeries.

Damask Haus Eros Eau de Parfum: $8+

Damask Haus' Odyssey of Love collection uses the Greek gods to influence their scents. One of our favorites from the collection is Eros, tying into physical and emotional desire. It has mature, sultry notes of bergamot, vetiver, guaiac wood and patchouli to offer a woodsy floral fragrance.

Alkemia Calliope Perfume: $20+

What we love most about Alkemia Perfumes is their vibrant imagery that tells a rich story about the fragrance. For example, Calliope, characterized by a charismatic photo of Marilyn Monroe, has sweet, feminine notes of vanilla musk, cotton candy and sugared currants. When you wear this, you'll feel like the epitome of girl and womanhood, as Marilyn represents for many.

CocoaPink Marshmallow Fireside Perfume Spray: $32.95+

CocoaPink has, legitimately, an endless number of fragrances. It's nearly impossible to pick only one, but Marshmallow Fireside is a promising contender for first place. It's got woodsy notes, simultaneously providing a dreamy aroma of sugary marshmallows. And if that's not your thing, they have at least one that will be.

For Strange Women Black Iris Perfume: $34+

We should actually refer to For Strange Woman as For People With Fantastic Taste in Perfumes because they're all that good. Take Black Iris, for example. It's a warm, fruity floral to a tee with accords of violet, iris blooms and stonefruit. We can almost see a juicy berry gliding across a prolific flower.

Imaginary Authors Saint Julep Perfume: $42+

If you can't tell by now, these indie fragrances have some of the most unique blends of scents we've seen. Imaginary Authors' Saint Julep has to be one of the most niche. It unites sweet mint with tangerine, southern magnolia, sugar cubes and bourbon. We've never seen anything quite like that in our fragrance search.

Solstice Scents Queen of Dawn Eau de Parfum Spray: $100

Solstice Scents is one of the most popular indie brands, and once you hear this fragrance mixture, you'll know why. Queen of Dawn, one of the newest fragrances from their spring collection, has "radiant golden rays of diffusive sandalwood" that stream through "masses of fragrant white jasmine." What a description—and it smells as heavenly as you'd expect. Plus, the bottle design is especially lush.
