Here’s the Classic Sushi That Best Suits You, Based on Your Zodiac Sign

Not everyone eats sushi, but we tend to find that if you like it, you love it.

The traditional Japanese dish is made with seasoned rice plus any combination of seaweed, veggies and seafood (whether raw or cooked). In recent decades, it's also become a popular American staple, emphasizing flavorful sauces, textures and unusual ingredients to become its own thing. We happen to adore both, and think there really is a roll out there for every type of eater. Scroll down to your zodiac sign below to find out which one we think is just right for you.

Aries (March 21 – April 19): Spider Roll

Aries is the first sign of the zodiac, kicking things off with a bold personality and eagerness to jump into action. They crave excitement, making the spider roll their ideal type of sushi. It's an American-style roll that combines soft-shell crab tempura with cucumber and spicy mayo for kick as well as crunch, no raw fish required.

Taurus (April 20 – May 20): Negihama Maki

If there's one sign associated with appreciation for the finer things (including food), it's Taurus, so we had to pair them with negihama maki, or yellowtail roll. This classic Japanese roll pairs pieces of soft, sweet and fatty yellowtail with green onion for an elegantly simple and sophisticated flavor.

Gemini (May 21 – June 20): Kappa Maki

Gemini is a sign known for their refreshing charm and adaptability, and kappa maki, also known as cucumber rolls), are just as fresh, vibrant and versatile. They're traditional for a reason, with the perfectly seasoned cucumbers offering a surprising amount of flavor paired with the seaweed and rice, and if you're feeling more adventurous, they can also be elevated further with any sushi ingredient you can imagine. Just like Geminis, these rolls are true people-pleasers.

Cancer (June 21 – July 22): Shrimp Tempura Roll

Cancer is a sign that appreciates the comfortable and familiar, taking raw fish off the table. Instead, we think they'll prefer shrimp tempura rolls, putting a crispy, fried twist on one of the most approachable types of seafood and making it the star. Usually, they also feature crunchy cucumbers and a spicy mayo, making them easy to enjoy and share with Cancer's trusted inner circle.

Leo (July 23 – Aug. 22): Uni Roll

Leo is a sign characterized by gregariousness, bravado and daring, so of course their sushi needs to be a bit showy compared to most. We think they'll love uni rolls, not just for the culinary experience, but for the chance to show off how experimental they can be with food. It's made from sea urchins, with honey-yellow murasaki uni being most typical in the United States, fusing an unusual mousse-like texture with a salty, shellfish-like and slightly bitter flavor. It's certainly an acquired taste, but Leo has everything it takes to acquire it.

Virgo (Aug. 23 – Sep. 22): Salmon Hosomaki

Virgos are perfectionists who don't mess with the classics, making salmon hosomaki, or salmon rolls, their ideal match. Around the world, raw salmon is beloved for its tender structure and buttery, non-fishy flavor, making this roll widely appealing as well as adaptable. This sign can be pretty critical, but we don't think they'll have anything negative to say about these hosomaki.

Libra (Sep. 23 – Oct. 22): California Roll

Libra is a sign defined by peace and balance, not exactly known for taking risks or making waves. California rolls have a similar place in the world of sushi. This American-made roll is made for everyone to enjoy, avoiding the raw fish and replacing it with a shredded imitation crab salad, plus avocado (hence "California") and cucumber slices.

Scorpio (Oct. 23 – Nov. 21): Ikura Roll

Scorpio is a sign that's independent, mysterious and a little hard to read, which is why we think they're so suited to an unusual sushi like the ikura roll, featuring salmon roe (or eggs). It may sound strange, but the texture is a little like popping boba, featuring a salty, oceanic flavor in each tiny bursting bubble. Like Scorpio, they're not everyone's cup of tea, but they enjoy the finer things and giving a chance to opportunities others might pass up on.

Sagittarius (Nov. 22 – Dec. 21): Unakyu Maki

Of all of the signs of the zodiac, Sagittarius is known for being the most adventurous and curious, so most won't turn up their noses at the opportunity to try freshwater eel (or unagi). Unakyu maki is an unagi roll featuring cooked eel, which has a super delicate and tender fish texture. It's typically served with a sweet and savory, teriyaki-like sauce made with soy sauce, mirin and sugar, bringing out all of the best qualities of the meat.

Capricorn (Dec. 22 – Jan. 19): Tekka Maki

Capricorns have a reputation for being very traditional, only going for the most authentic and time-tested approaches, and it doesn't get more classic than tekka maki, or tuna rolls. The recipe goes back centuries, combining the simplicity of the seasoned rice and seaweed with bluefin tuna, valued for its smooth texture and savory, fatty flavor with a hint of sweetness. After one taste, Capricorn will see this dish has stuck around for a good reason.

Aquarius (Jan. 20 – Feb. 18): Philadelphia Roll

Aquarius is innovative and eccentric, and they don't play by anyone else's rules. The Philadelphia roll (obviously, another American sushi invention) can relate. While you'd never find cream cheese in a traditional sushi recipe, it's the star of this roll, joining smoked salmon and cucumber for something equal parts creamy, smoky and smooth. A sushi roll inspired by bagel ingredients might sound weird, but that's never deterred Aquarius before.

Pisces (Feb. 19 – March 20): Rainbow Roll

And finally, dreamy Pisces is a creative yet indecisive sign, so why struggle to pick a single flavor of roll when you can get a number of choices with the rainbow roll? It typically has the classic California roll ingredients on the inside, but it's topped with a colorful array of different types of fish—often tuna, salmon and yellowtail—as well as more avocado, so it's a feast for the eyes as well as the stomach.
