A Definitive Ranking of the Most Popular Nuts

There are so many varieties of nuts, and they have drastically different tastes For example, a peanut is much earthier than a sweet hazelnuts. Unsurprisingly, it creates very polarizing feelings about each flavor.

Below, discover our definitive ranking of the most common nuts.

8. Walnuts

The nice thing about walnuts is that its flavor isn't particularly strong. The bad part is that the flavor it does have is terrible. We're not sure if its just us, but we think walnuts have a bitter flavor. It's almost impossible for it to complement other ingredients, yet brands consistently try to sneak it into dessert. Please, no more!

7. Macadamia

Macadamias are similar to walnuts—not much flavor. However, they are much more palatable than walnuts. Macadamias can pair well with sweet treats, but there isn't any dessert we've had where we felt like the macadamias enhanced it. Instead, it just provides a crunchy texture, which isn't something we always want.

6. Pecans

Over the years, we've become wary of pecans. Pecan pie isn't something we love. Instead, we've learned that pecans shine by themselves. We're still learning to enjoy them as a topping, but bare with us. We know many people feel very passionate about how delicious they could be.

5. Peanuts

You will never catch us seeing peanuts in their natural form. Sorry, but we are in the minority of people who aren't big fans of their flavor. That said, peanuts are fabulous when paired with other ingredients. Just because we don't like peanuts alone doesn't mean we won't chow down on a chocolate-peanut butter combo.

4. Hazelnuts

So, we're kind of cheating. We haven't had an actual hazelnut, but anything hazelnut-flavored, we've liked—hazelnut hot chocolate, hazelnut candy bars, anything. It doesn't have the earthiness of other nuts. It leans in the sweeter family. If only people would swap pecans and walnuts in desserts for hazelnuts.

3. Pistachio

Pistachios have been a nut we have grown to enjoy more in adulthood. It doesn't taste like any other nut because of its saltiness, and somehow, it works well as a dessert flavor, like in ice cream. Today, it's getting even more popular, thanks to the viral Dubai chocolate. Honestly, pistachios might soon take over for the silver or gold medal.

2. Cashews

We aren't the type of people who will casually snack on nuts. There are a few that we will, and cashew is one of them. We love their sweetness, much like hazelnuts. If you've ever had a honey-roasted cashew, you'll know exactly what we're talking about. It's heaven, grown from earth.

1. Almonds

Almonds are the only nuts that taste good in any form. For example, you can have spicy, sweet or salty-flavored almonds, and they all hit the spot. We can literally down an entire tub in a single sitting. Oh, and it's the only nut that also has a tasty milk. We drink almond milk more than cow's milk!
