by Tayah Fox
On Sep. 11, devoted fans of famed K-pop singer KANGDANIEL poured into the Athenaeum Theatre on Chicago's North Side.
As this concert marked the idol's first appearance in Chicago since 2023, the crowd guaranteed a warm welcome with a flurry of glowing lightsticks and beaming joy. Finally, as the lights dimmed, the audience's energy reached new heights, signaling KANGDANIEL's arrival in the spotlight.
Donning a sleek, sparkling suit, the singer opened his show with the powerful track, "Losing Myself," from his 2024 EP, ACT. With the help of four backup dancers, the performance left the audience eager and in awe. Following "Losing Myself" came the 2021 single, "Outer Space," which he noted was strongly suited to the night's atmosphere.
The singer then ditched his mic stand to create space for his swift dance moves during the first live performances of the songs "Get Loose" and "Touchin'." KANGDANIEL later revealed that the night's setlist was a result of his thoughts becoming a reality, which highlighted his hands-on dedication to his craft.
