5 Reasons Why Cycling Is One of the Most Underrated Forms of Exercise

Saddle up on your bike because it is World Cycling Day.

We have to say that biking is one of the most underrated forms of exercise. Aside from its health benefits, it's eco-friendly and fun. Curious to dive into the reasons we love bicycles? Continue reading to discover them below.

It's Easily Tailored to Your Needs

Cycling can vary on your skill level. For example, beginners can take it easy and breezy with a slow pace. On the other hand, if you are someone who trains, it doesn't require much to up the ante. Then, you might choose to enroll in a cycling class, which is truly for the intense gym rat. Oh, and did we mention you can do it indoors or outdoors—stationary or moving?

The Change of Scenery

Personally, we find biking outside the most satisfying. We can customize our route to get the best views and workout. For something more intense, you might opt for something hilly in the mountains. But sometimes, cycling through your neighborhood or a nature reserve can feel equally satisfying and provide a well-needed mood boost.

Exciting Themed Classes

More than any other workout class, we experience the most variety with cycling. There's always a theme, whether you want modern hits (Sabrina Carpenter and Taylor Swift), throwback favorite (Britney Spears and Backstreet Boys) or even more niche options like Broadway Tunes (HamiltonHadestown). You can really find something to fit your music tastes, which always makes exercising more fun.

It Unlocks Your Inner Child

Despite being skilled riders as adults, bicycles instantly transport us back to childhood. Riding a bike was one of our first forms of freedom before we could drive a car or take public transportation alone. Still, when we start pedaling away, it makes us feel like our inner kids again—happy, independent and curious.

It's Good for the Environment

Instead of taking the bus, train or car, use your bike on World Bicycle Day. It's the perfect opportunity to get in a workout without hitting the gym. Plus, since it doesn't use fuel, there are zero emissions put into the atmosphere. Save the earth one day at a time.
