Here’s the Biggest Reason You Love to Read, Based on Your Zodiac Sign
In 2025, we've gotten back into regularly reading books, and it's improved our lives in a million little ways.
Reading is the ultimate pastime for strengthening your imagination and getting caught up in a story while learning new things, and it makes us feel 100 times better than doomscrolling or binging episode after episode of TV. Not only do we feel like our minds are sharper, but we feel more relaxed and at ease—not to mention the fact we can now brag about all of the great reads we've already gotten through this year. Whether you're an avid reader yourself or looking for the perfect excuse to fall into the habit, below are the biggest reasons you probably love to read, based on your zodiac sign.
Aries (March 21 – April 19): The Competitiveness
Reading may not seem like an obvious hobby for active and outdoorsy Aries, but that doesn't mean it can't ignite your competitive streak. Once you get hooked, it's tough to stop as you push yourself to read books that are more and more challenging or exceedingly long, just so you can say you read them. You view tough books as a dare, and might even get into competitions with yourself to see how many pages you can read in a sitting or how many books you can polish off in a month. Plus, you might get a kick out of feeling slightly superior for reading books that many others haven't, all while enjoying the incredible adventures within.

Taurus (April 20 – May 20): Indulging the (Imagined) Senses
Of all of the signs of the zodiac, Taurus is most in touch with the five senses. While books don't offer up those experiences literally, they do activate the imagination, allowing you to pretend to see, smell, hear, taste and feel everything within. Maybe this allows you to envision yourself in the most regal locales, eating up the finest dishes imaginable, or to travel to fully fictional worlds to experience made-up colors, flavors and sensations. As someone who loves luxury and fine, you enjoy the ability to plop yourself into these scenes for just the price of the book in your hands.
Gemini (May 21 – June 20): The Communicative Aspect
At this point, we've probably called Geminis the "social butterflies of the zodiac" about a hundred times, for a good reason. That's also the guiding principle in the sign's love of reading. As a Gemini, you understand that reading is an important form of communication. Someone put a lot of thought, time and energy into every word you read on the page, and you respect that. You also love that every little tidbit you learn from a book is a possible pathway to a fun new conversation or valuable new friendship. You appreciate trivia and knowledge as a potential icebreaker, and you've probably widely broadened your social circles through your love of reading.

Cancer (June 21 – July 22): The Coziness
Cancer is symbolized by a crab, reflecting their tough exteriors, soft and sensitive insides and their love of retreating into their shells to enjoy the comforts of the home. Cancer is the homebody of the zodiac, and there's no hobby better suited to curling up in bed in your coziest outfit than reading. While you likely gravitate toward feel-good books and fluffy romance, you're also multi-faceted and enjoy some good drama, angst and death-defying thrills from your home sanctuary. We bet you also love utilizing your library card to access ebooks without having to ever step outside.

Leo (July 23 – Aug. 22): Learning About the Greats
We joke that, because Leo's ruling "planet" is the sun, the sign tends to think all things revolve around them—and we've met many Leos who'd tend to agree with us. It's likely that you love being the center of attention and are constantly striving to be the best you can be, and that you're also drawn to tales of greatness and heroics. Many Leos can't get enough of fiction and non-fiction alike, focusing on tales of the real-life icons who changed the world and the fictional champions of both realistic and outlandish stories. You're always eager to learn about how you can be better, while avoiding the pitfalls of those who came before you, and enjoy finding inspiration in unlikely places.
Virgo (Aug. 23 – Sep. 22): Soaking Up Knowledge
Virgo isn't just one of the hardest working signs of the zodiac, but also one of the most avid learners. Even if your academic career is behind you, chances are that you consider yourself a perpetual student and are always eager to learn about new subjects or dive even more deeply into the ones that interest you most. You find that books are an easy pathway to soaking up new knowledge, no matter what you're reading. You're especially drawn to non-fiction and more technical books, but that doesn't mean you don't also enjoy literature that can open you up to new ideas and perspectives (or at least introduce you to words you don't already know).

Libra (Sep. 23 – Oct. 22): Building Community
Like Geminis, Libras are sociable air signs, and we bet that ever since you were first read to as a child, you've deeply understood the incredible bonding that can occur through the act of reading together. Just because the act of reading itself is generally a solitary activity doesn't mean you've treated it that way, and you've likely met lots of like-minded people at your local library or through book clubs and literary events. Even if you tend to lurk on BookTok or on book review sites, the community aspect of reading can't be denied. Chances are that you follow your favorite authors on all of their socials and love the chance to recommend your favorite reads to anyone who will listen.

Scorpio (Oct. 23 – Nov. 21): The Secrecy
Scorpios have a reputation for being a big distant and mysterious, and when it comes to your reading habits, you like to keep things that way. One thing you love about reading is that it's a very private hobby and you get to be secretive about it, if you want. It's a bit thrilling that you can dedicate dozens of hours into a series and know everything there is to know about it without anyone else being any the wiser. It's like having a whole life outside of what you do at school or for a living. You ignore the books everyone says you have to read and instead focus your attention on what sparks joy. What's wrong with a little gatekeeping here and there?
Sagittarius (Nov. 22 – Dec. 21): Traveling, Without Traveling
Sagittarius has a reputation for being the world traveler of the zodiac, but what about when your budget holds you back? Books are magic because, with a little imagination, they allow you to stop by any place in the world, at any point in history, to explore the land and see what the food, culture and people are all about. Both non-fiction and fiction can teach you so much about the world at large, and even expose you to places that never really existed in the first place. Plus, visiting somewhere in real life—once you've saved up the funds—is even more wonderful when you already feel familiar and comfortable with it, thanks to reading.

Capricorn (Dec. 22 – Jan. 19): The Mental Workout
Ambitious and responsible Capricorns have a habit of being all work and no play, and luckily, reading falls into a bit of a grey area. A good book allows you to take a break from your work while still somewhat feeling like work. If you dislike downtime or feeling "lazy," it's a way to unwind that's still productive and enlightening, sharpening your mind and problem-solving abilities (regardless of whether it's an educational book, fun romance or whimsical fantasy story).

Aquarius (Jan. 20 – Feb. 18): The Empathy
Aquarians are independent thinkers who, despite being a bit aloof, just want to make the world a better place. One of the main reasons they love to read is the ability to see the world from new perspectives and sit inside of someone else's experience, without actually have to be there. Reading builds empathy and understanding of people from all walks of life, and this can allow you to better empathize with others in your day-to-day experiences and make a real difference.
Pisces (Feb. 19 – March 20): The Escapism
And finally, Pisces, the dreamer of the zodiac, loves to read for the pure escapism of it all. Since you can easily be stressed or overwhelmed, you love the chance to get away from it all for a bit, and books are an even better outlet than movies or TV for getting fully enveloped and swept away in a great story. Since you're frequently daydreaming, books actually allows you to take a break from imagining everything from scratch, giving you new worlds and characters to get lost in. You might even be inspired to write stories of your own.
