We've seen everything from dainty jewelry, to designer statements, to tie-dye and more. But the latest trend that's caught our eye (yet not quite our personal preference) is scary face masks.
A deep dive on Instagram will bring you to skulls, bones, blood and everything in-between. Keep reading for the 35 most frightening protective face masks you have to see to believe!
1. Zombie Mask
There are so many scary things about this mask. From the bright, eye-popping teal color, to the rotting teeth—and, most importantly, the (real) goatee that sticks out at the bottom. We definitely wouldn't want to cross this creepy crawler in a dark alley.
2. Vampire Mask
The colors black and red make a statement as it is—pair that with dripping blood and fangs, and you've got yourself one heck of a scary face covering.
3. Creepy Clown Mask
This mask channels major IT vibes, which obviously means it's frightening. The scary smile and crowded, narrow teeth certainly do a number on us. But then again, has a clown (creepy or otherwise) ever not given us the heebie-jeebies?
4. Werewolf Mask
Werewolves are scary enough as it is—put one of their faces on a human, and cue the creepiness! This mask covers up most of the face, which makes you forget for a second that it's not real.
5. Creepy Teeth Mask
Teeth have such a strange effect. They can either look perfectly straight and white, leading to the perfect smile. Or they can look like this and give off an entirely different vibe. These crooked, massive chompers definitely make us want to steer clear.

We're not entirely sure what's going on here, but it's creeping us out nonetheless. We're under the impression this is supposed to be a doll blowing bubbles for some reason, and we have to say if we saw this walking around town, it would trip us out for sure.

Okay, this one is less creepy and more huh? While this constricting mask surely wouldn't do it for us, we've gotta give the guy an A for creativity. Does it make him look like a total weirdo, however? Absolutely.

The doctor is in! This goofy mask perceived to be a patient taking their doctor's orders definitely makes our skin crawl.
15. Overdone Smile Mask
When a smile is about as big as the face itself, that's a clear reason for concern! This animated, over-the-top version of a typical mouth absolutely has us turning away.

When you see the sweet old lady rocking this aggressive face mask, you're inclined to cue the awws, but a closer look at those sharp teeth and it's time to make a run for it!

We're not really sure where to begin with this one. Not only does the man on the mask look creepy, but add that to the fact that a girl is wearing it, and we have all sorts of questions!

Why anyone would opt for this mask is beyond us, but clearly someone finds it amusing. Fresh with yellow-stained teeth, pockmarks on the skin and a goofy grin, this mask, combined with the eyes of its wearer, has us hiding in a corner.

Braces surely make a statement, so when they're unnaturally taking up your entire face, it definitely makes us gasp. Add that to the powder pink skin tone of this mask and you've got yourself one big what on earth?!

It looks like this gal did her best when it came to coloring on a seemingly plain white mask. But the overly big smile and unnatural teeth shape certainly give us a reason for concern!

We don't really find lizards in the wild to be a reason for concern, but when placed on someone's face—well, that's a different story. We're not sure if it's the tongue, the skin or all of the above, but this bad boy makes us cringe.

TBH, we're not entirely sure what this is, which actually makes it all the more creepy. Whether it's a neanderthal, a gorilla or something made up entirely, it's a bizarre choice for a face covering.
25. 'El Bandido' Mask
This bandit mask weirds us out because it's on the face of a woman, then with a mustache. It looks ill-fitting yet vivid at the same time. While it's apparent that the girl underneath is beautiful, it's quite hard to tell with this bizarre distraction.
26. Pig Mask
Perhaps we'd be more taken by this mask choice had it been Miss Piggy, but any other pig just weirds us out. Also, whatever this one looks weird altogether so we just can't get behind it.

If there's one thing you've learned by scrolling through this gallery, it's how we feel about a smile. This right here may take the cake for creepiest. The multitude of colors combined with gaps definitely gives us a good shriek.

This lovely lady right here looks ready for trick-or-treating, but really she's just staying protected. She may look slightly less eerie had she not sported a skeleton on both her face and her body!

The neon hues make this mask slightly less frightening than its predecessors. However, the image itself does its job of freaking us out.
