8 Bold Hobbies Every Leo Should Try at Least Once

If you've been feeling extra bold and outgoing lately, that might be because we've entered the Leo zodiac season. Lasting from July 23 to Aug. 22, it marks the height of the summer season and is a powerful period of passion, drama and fun.

If you're a Leo yourself, you're probably feeling these impulses even more than the average person, and seeking somewhere to direct all of that excitement and energy into something. If you're ready for something new, consider one of these great hobbies, picked specifically with Leo in mind.

Fashion Design

Intentional fashion is all about self-expression, which is pretty much the name of the game for Leos. They probably already make a big statement in the way they dress, but they can take things a step further with their ensembles by actually designing the clothes they wear, whether this involves alterations and embellishments or making pieces from scratch. Getting familiar with patterns, sewing machines and hand-stitching will allow them to show off who they are in a brand new way through their style. Soon, others who envy their one-of-a-kind looks will also come clamoring to wear their custom pieces.

Singing

Of all of the signs of the zodiac, Leos often have the greatest love to be front and center, which is why they're drawn toward singing. It's another powerful form of self-expression, and everyone has a unique voice that they can hone and adjust to make more powerful and beautiful, creating stories through lyricism, melody and tone. Better yet, you don't need any additional tools to start breaking into song at a moment's notice, and as singing often goes hand-in-hand with songwriting and lead instruments, learning to sing is the first step to becoming a well-rounded star.

Gardening

You might not immediately associate gardening with Leos, but it's a great way to get more time in the sun (Leo's ruling "planet") while nurturing something you can be proud of. It's the perfect combination of hands-on work and gaining practical knowledge of nature, and it feels incredible to take care of something and watch it grow into a tangible thing you can brag about. Whether you want a garden full of beautiful flowers, trees and shrubbery or want to grow delicious fruits and veggies that become even better in delectable recipes, a well-tended garden is sure to impress.

A Solo Sport

Yes, Leos are natural leaders who can thrive guiding others in team sports, but often, they can get even more out of solo sports that put an emphasis on self-improvement and personal growth. Firstly, both successes and failures can be good for Leo's egos as they learn to focus entirely on their locus of control. Second, they don't have to share the glory of their wins. Whether this is martial arts, swimming, track and field, climbing or archery, they can build their skills and know that their progress hinges entirely on what they put into it.

Sculpture

Leos are naturally inclined toward the arts as a unique form of communication, and those who really want to stand out should try their hand at sculpture. It's a much more physical medium than drawing or painting, and its also done more rarely, so sculpture commands attention. It also requires different skills and an understanding of 3D forms, whether you're adding to a piece using pottery, ceramics and papier-mâché or craving something out of a larger material. Regardless, sculpture is expressive and affecting, while reflecting Leo's showmanship.

Community Organizing

Leadership can be a very attractive thing to Leos, who are good with people and enjoy telling them what to do, so we recommend channeling that desire into community organizing. Responsibility can do wonders for Leo, grounding their somewhat fiery and brash natures, and when they can focus on making a difference in the world and improving life for others, even in a small way, the resulting feeling can be intoxicating. Soon, they'll crave even more of it. They love being able to put smiles on people's faces—and taking most of the credit.

Travel Writing

Leos are curious and adventurous, which often results in travel and exploration of unique places. Whether or not they have their passports at the ready for international travel, they're probably in interesting and unique cities from time to time. Instead of just flaunting their experiences on social media, they can take things further by writing about them in a more detailed and thoughtful way. Whether they're showcasing notable tourist destinations, the best places to eat or the experiences everything should have when they visit, travel writing is a great way to boast in a manner that's also informative and helpful for others.

Musical Theater

Few things satisfy Leo's love for drama and desire for the spotlight quite like musical theater. It's all about being a star, and though it can be slightly scary at first to act, sing and dance in front of people, once Leos get a taste of the excitement, it's hard for them to stop. They might not excel at every aspect of it immediately, but needing improvement (and the potential to embarrass themselves) can be the ultimate motivator. Further, these skills might take them places in the future, allowing them to make a career out of something they love to do.
